Well, yesterday I walked to the library (2 km) and back to get a book so I could JUST SIT ON MY BIG FAT LAZY ASS and read (It was a PB :D )

Can't do anything else cause the quads still hurt  Maybe later I'll go for a swim today.

Did an hour run yesterday - worked in a bunch of speedwork intervals.
An hour recovery ride on the bike this morning - followed by a good 15 minutes of core work.
And then a 75 min swim after work tonight - working on endurance form.

I'm in my end-of-season cross training phase. by that i mean i am stacking wood in my parents basement for the next few days, followed by a the Rolling Stones in Moncton, NB.

Trust me, drinking beer and surviving the mosh pit IS cross training.

Back to real training next week.

Well, I rolled out of bed onto the floor, crawled to the bathroom sink and tried to stand up.
Then I made the coffee one-handed while supporting my back with the other one.
And had a marathon pic-posting session to my training blog.

Pix Here

I'll try going down the stairs for the mail later.

It's the Summerland Sprint Tri. Last year I was in the 45>49 cat. Now I am offically and old guy so my goal is top 3 in ag. Dunno though............seems the further I move up in ag groups the faster everyone gets...............or maybe I'm getting slower?

Not one single thing. I tried to stretch in a hot shower this morning. Quads stretched out just fine. I can usually put my hands flat on the floor doing a forward bend/hammy stretch.....well....I can put my hands on my knees to stretch the hammies....that's about it. Oh, I did climb the stairs twice to my office. I can almost go downstairs without hanging onto the rail for dear life...at least I go that goin' for me... :-)

PS: Do those 2 flights of stairs count as "hill repeats"....? They kinda felt like it.....

I did not say a 3 mile sprint :)
I am telling you....take an ice tubby (bath) after . I take one after all my long runs 18 miles and more and am rarely sore. I felt really good yesterday after the race--also had a massage yesterday. It could also mean I dogged my 6 hour marathon ( more than 2 hours slower than my "normal" marathon pace ) in the race....

1.fill tub with cold water
2. dump approx 3 bags of ice in
3. sit in tubbie for 15 min  ...feel free to wear a sweatshirt up top.

I've never thought about wearing a sweatshirt. That is a damned good idea.

What size are your bags of ice? Gallon ziplock bag size? Grocery bag size? Ice from the store size?

The cold water alone seems to be cold enough to get into the tub for me. Brrrr . . . I did the Penticton Half this year and walked into Okanagan in my bathing suit in May and people stared at me like I was crazy. I was cuz it was super cold and I only went in past my hip flexors. So I'm sure that puzzled the onlookers. But it is the best post race treatment! That and a massage! :)

Congrats on your finish and post race 3 miler Britt!

Congrat's Ironman Canada people!!! Fantastic results!

We're just starting to get some spring weather here in NZ so i took the day off work to make up for working over the weekend. Sun shining, birds churping, flowers blooming. Went out for a 40km cycle around the coast. Felt good afterwards and the weather was still great so i decided to head straight out for a run (brick workout). I thought i'd expore some of the offroad tracks around my suburb and run up to one of the lookouts (est. time 20-30 mins).

Got lost :o . My 30 min run turned into a 2 1/2 hour mission. I didn't have any water with me, but luckely i still had a Gu sachet in my pocket from Monday. In the last few minutes of my run I started to get cramps up the side of my stomach and ribs and could only take shallow breaths. Anyone had this happen before - perhaps its dehydration related???

Time to try out that ice bath idea and have a beer - you know, rehydrate :) .

(Note to self: Buy Map!)

Hi Matt, thanks for the pat on the back.

What you had, that sharp pain under the ribs, is probably just a "stitch." - a sharp pain typically under the ribs on one side or the other, or under the scapula, and even odder places. It is often associated with lack of fitness, running too hard at the start, insufficient warming-up - that sort of thing. Nothing to worry about.
