Hurricane cancelation
Be glad it's cancelled. Swimming in the storm surge would be no fun. And what about staying upright in 100mph winds!
but seriously, I suppose it would just be cancelled, not postponed, because so many people will have come from far away and cannot re-arrange their travel, plus other dates will conflict with any possible re-scheduling. These things are usually worked out months, even years, in advance.
Check their website for last minute updates.
Our Canadian Champs were cancelled due to bad weather last year and well, tough luck for the racers.

And it is all over. It has been canceled. OH WOW..... I still get my shirt for my first tri that I didn't get to do. Wow that will be one to not wear. I can only wear that if I do it. So skippy for me. I trained and worked and pushed and I guess for nothing. I guess put it off till next year. :(

check out trifind.com and pull up your state ... there are races just about every weekend. was it really for nothing ? keeping you body in top physical condition. the feeling of a good workout is priceless. i took a whole year off from racing but i always still trained hard. i love to train thats just me. but it is not for nothing. you could be sitting around like 99% of the population getting fat and being lazy. making excuses. it wasn't for nothing , trust me.

The last Tri I raced in July, was shortened due to hurricane relate weather. And I mean SHORTNED. They really, really hacked that race. I was not satsfied at all with it. Be glad they just cancelled it. It beats a hack job and dangerous conditions. Look for something next weekend or the following. It's the journey, not the destination.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
actually trimenow ... GET OUT OF NEW ORLEANS .... its not looking good. stay safe.

I can relate to that. I had travelled to Kansas City to compete in the Age Group National Championships. After a number of delays, and possibly changing to a bike/run format, they ended out cancelling. It was disappointing to say the least. It was my intended A race for the season, but it was the best decision. I remember feeling very nervous as I watched the rain coming down. I've raced and trained in the rain a lot, but this rain was particularly unnerving. The disappointment of the cancellation was replaced by relief that I didn't have to make the decision to race under such challenging conditions.
Fortunately I had another race scheduled for the following weekend, and I focused my energy on that one. Try to find another race to do. Your training efforts are never wasted. Even if you don't get to race this season you will have the experience of training, and it will help you next season.
If you still want to, there is a sprint distance in Wiggins Mississippi on October 1st, unless something with the storm causes a cancellation. Go to trimississippi.com. Wiggins is about 20 miles north of Gulfport on Hwy 49. I will get some more info for you. God speed getting away from the storm, be safe!!!!

Thank you everyone! I am out of N.O. and am very happy I am gone. Sad about the race but my life is way more important. Yesterday I was so upset and wanted to cry about the tri today I am so upset that I may not even have a home to go back too. It is about one of the most unresting feelings ever. I just keep praying that it wont be a direct hit and it will stay to the East not the West.

Ditto that - I'm relieved to hear that your out of there and safe! There will be other races but there is only one of you! I also hope that all works out OK with your (and your family and friends') home, but the main thing is that you are safe.

I am alive. Doesn't look like I have a home to go back to but I am alive and have my family. I don't have computer so this is gonna be all I have to say till the internet gets back hooked up at my aunt's house. I can't even go check out my house till monday but they say it will be atleast a month before power, water, and sewage are working but more like 2 months. Thought I would do a quick shout out. Keep Southeast LA in your prayers

trimenow, not sure when you will get this, but glad to hear you and your family are all OK. I can't imagine how hard this all is, but keep your chin up and know that the most important thing is that your loved ones are OK, and that all else is material and can be replaced. Am definitely keeping all you folks in my prayers.

same as Skippy. All our good vibes are with you. Be strong
Glad you made it out OK.
Everything else is just stuff and can always be replaced.
Check the website for the race and see if they are doing anything about rescheduling or compensating the participants. Sometimes they give you a deal on enrty to another event or something.
However with damage on this scale the event is probably the last thing on anybody's mind.
Good luck my thoughts and prayers are with you. Stay safe. :)
Nothing to it, but to do it
Glad you and your family are OK!
If there are things we can do to help make your life a bit easier, let us know!
Life is getting better. I did get admitted into LSU and will find out Monday if I can take all of my classes. My credit Union that I work at is transfer to Baton Rouge for the time being so I have a job but with very limited hours. We found a house. So all of that is good
The bad thing is that I have no word on when I can even go home and it isn't even the question over the storm damage keeping us out of the city it is the crazy riots and lutting. Money is very limited and we don't have anything to go in this house.
All that matters is I have my family and a roof over my head and better days will come. Thank you all for your prayers. The race is the last thing on my mind though.

At times like this all our fussing about races and times and tweeking our bikes seems a little trivial...

My brother had just transfered to University of New Orleans two weeks ago - he's now living with me until we find out when he can go back to see what's left of his apartment. You're in our thoughts trimenow, along with everyone else affected by Katrina.
Dude that is my school. Does he live on campus or what? He can still go to another school.
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
He did enroll in a few classes at a community college until he figures out when he can get back to UNO. His apartment is near the Lakeshore campus, which is where most of his classes are. Where are you at?
I am in Baton Rouge going to LSU I guess. Did he live on Campus?
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger
No his apartment isn't on campus, but it's close to the Lakeshore campus. It's actually pretty close the the 17th Street levee breach. We were able to find a satellite photo this week that showed his apartment building - completely dry. We were shocked, there is water all around but his building seems to be fine!
Best Of luck with that! I didn't get to go in. My family did and they say it is crazy destroyed in some places and the place next door is fine. It was a kinda hit or miss thing.

I am sure I wont be around to even read this. What happens if your tri get canceled because of a hurricane? HOw do I even know if it is? It pretty much looks like the hurricane is gonna hit New Orleans and wow look that is me and I am not gonna stay just for a tri that is a day before. Damn sucks!
