What's up

Another newbie from San Diego checking in. I've been reading Trifuel for about a month now and decided it was time to join the fun. I started running about 6 months ago and decided that I needed something more. So at the ripe old age of 39, I've decided to try Triathlons. Plan on my first one in October (Sprint). Training so far consists of Swimming two time a week (2100m each session) and running two times a week (4 miles each session). Haven't done the bike yet as I don't own one. Come the end of August I will though.
First question - because of budget constraents I plan on buying a very entry level bike. I've rode many and have decide on the Felt 90. Is this a decent bike to start with?
Thanks for all the input so far, I look forward to talking to you all.

Welcome!
I've never ridden a Felt, but I've heard good things about them on here.

Hi, I'm new to the forum as well. The Felt F90 is a great bargain with a sensible component mix to maximize value.
I just ordered my first tri-specific bike from Nytro which, being in your area would be worth a look. Incredible selection at all price points, great staff and an infectious enthusiasm for any level of triathlon interest.
A year into trying to swim for triathlons and I can STILL barely go 2000m. wow.
Enjoy the ride.

I've also heard good things about Felt. You should check out the Imperial Beach Tri in your area. I did that one a few years ago and it was a really fun sprint distance event. But man that water was cold

Great to have you on board! I did my Tri at 36. It was a great experiece and I couldn't believe it when I crossed the finish line. That night the food tasted better and the beer went down smoother. I couldn't wait for the next race.

hey sdtri.. im in the same exact place as you.. like exact exact.. im running 4 mi x 2 and about 2300 yds x 2 a week, execpt im on the bike twice a week as well.. which triathlon do you plan on doing? im doing the sprint tri at scott tinley's adventures up at lopez lake... i just bought my felt f70 and im loving it, dont really have anything to compare it to, considering my old bike was from i turned 12 i believe.. anyway welcome!

Did my first tri at 35, and I am still hooked 3 years later.

I have also heard good things about Felt bikes.
I would shop around and test ride a bunch before you buy.

Make sure you are comfy with the bike you choose or you will regret it later.
Make sure they know how to fit you and take some time with you.

Welcome

Thanks for all the responses - Sorry for my late reply but my family and I took a little hawaiian vacation. Glad to see Iam not the only one who's taken this up a little later in life. My brother put the bug in my ear about a year ago when he did IMNZ.
WayNorth/Beads - I have looked into NYTRO and will be buying my bike from them. I have other bike/tri shops closer but they just seem to know there stuff better.
I feel pretty comfortable with the Felt bicycle choice, I've ridden a few and that one seems to feel the best.
My first tri, if everything comes together, will be in october. The Mission Bay Triathlon, Sprint distance October 2, 2005. A little worried about the cold water for the swim, but hopefully I will only be in the water for a few minutes.
Again thanks for all your responses - they keep me motivated when I don't feel like doing my swims and runs.

Tough life!! Hawaiian Vacation!!

You are better off with a bike shop that knows what they are doing, good luck on the bike.

As far as the swim goes, use a wetsuit, or rent one if you don't own one.

Many places will even put part of the rental towards the purchase of a new one.

Good Luck!!

Hey beads, how is the bike? Did they fix it well enough for ya?
BBB

I have to call the Bike shop today.

I couldn't get to the shop before work today. First day of school, so I had to drop the girls off.

Hopefully it was nothing major, maybe just an adjustment or something.

It better be a freebie.
