Heya all,

First, just to say hi really quick. I've been a lurker/reader on the forums for quite a bit. It's a great community I've seen here :)

I'm heading to IMF this November for my first Ironman-distance tri. Just wanted to see if anyone has suggestions for lodging, or things to watch out for (from past experiences). Time is a little limited due to job responsibilities, unfortunately, but it looks like I should be there roughly wed evening through monday midday.

Thanks!
Jeremy

No tips either but good luck! I'm considering IMFL in '07 as my first IM. Although ocean swimming scares the poo out of me. Something about the sharks and jellyfish, I dunno. I'm guess more of a lake rat.

Good luck!

I'll prolly be heading up as a spectator. I'm not a frequenter to the area, tho, so no tips there. I think there was a thread a while back where there was some hotel names posted.... might wanna run a search.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

is too early to tell but IMW or IMFL will be the the target for my A race. I like to do base training in spring, then Sumer training. Since both are at the end of the season they work perfect for me. I like more Florida for other better reasons...

I raced the IM FL course in May for the Gulf Coast 1/2 iron-dtstance tri. The Gulf swim was great ( I love salt-water swims) plus, you'll probably get to wear a wetsuit. There is a chance the water could be rocky...but i think its usually calmer in the morning. Don't let the sharks scare you...just stay in the pack and the chance that one gets YOU will be a miracle :D

The bike is as flat as can be...so you'll go fast. Not much to look at except the other triathletes. Not many supporters on the bike course either (at least not for the GCT). Be sure to get out of the saddle once in awhile and work some other muscles.

The run is again flat and the only exciting part was running through a park. You'll laugh at the beach people sitting around drinking beer in the morning cheering you on outside their houses...they don't share their beer :p

This wasn't my favorite course, but its probably a good first IM course. By November the temps will be more enjoyable than in May.

GOOD LUCK and ENJOY it!

Im going down there for IMF myself and found some good deals. IMFs website has a bunch of hotels on it so I would check them out, under lodging. I actually found a really good deal. Im taking some extra time off to enjoy Florida and some much needed rest days while Im down there. So Im going down on Wed before the race and staying till tues after the race. I am staying at the Beach Break by the sea. And Im paying 325.00 for six nights stay. It is a little over 5 miles from the start but thats ok with me. The host hotel was 137 per night when they still had rooms. Good Luck and ill See you on the course.

I will be seeing you in November.

I haven't figured out accomodations yet but I will be driving down from NJ Wednesday after work.

From NJ.

I'll be there in the PM on Thursday. I'll get myself checked in and then crash early Thursday night.

I'll be staying until Monday morning then driving home

For lodging try the Regency Towers. It is about 2 miles from the transition area and are very reasonably priced. I think about $100 per night for a 1 bedroom condo. The rooms have a dining area, living room, full kitchen and king size bed.

Hope this helps and enjoy the race.

I am planning on IMFL in 2006 as my first IM and have been looking at the logistics of it all etc etc. Being in Panama City Beach there are loads of reasonable hotels and condos and if there is enough of you you could also look at renting a beach house. The various websites are great for information. thebeachloversbeach.com . I look forward to hearing from those doing it this year.........esp. about the sharks!!!!!!

I am not worried about the sharks when you have 1000 people swimming with you and kicking and smacking you around. I think that would scare the crap out of the sharks.

Anyway,

I am looking for a cheap place to stay not too far from the start.
I don't need a lot of amenities. Roof over my head, bed, and shower, and I'll be fine.

I would be willing to go with a rental as part of a group if anybody is interested.
Any takers let me know
