I have a triathlon in 5 days. 10 days out I tweaked my knee trail running. Went to the dr. She couldn't find anything. X-rays showed every was okay but I couldn't walk on it.

Now I am able to walk/hike and put pressure on it but it still feels weird. I am afraid to run. Feel great biking and swimming but I'm taking it easy.

Question: Should I do the triathlon on Sunday? I just don't know what to do. I know I can do the swim and bike part. But I'm so scared to re-injure but I have been looking forward to this triathlon for 6 months now. It's a milestone for me... Help!!!

Go with your gut, Klodge. I know how important a race can be when you've been waiting and training for so long, but you have to consider the long term. If you think that your knee is not completely healed you could injure your knee again, it could be worse the next time and it could keep you away from training for a longer period of time. Then, again, the Dr. said things look fine, so I would just listen to my body. You know whether or not you should do this race. Do what's right for your future and the future of your knees.

ps. I think you're in the wrong thread. You might get more responses if you posted in the 'Heath/Nutrition' thread....http://www.trifuel.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=16

how bout if you do the swim and bike and then walk/wobble/jog on the run part, just don't injure yourself by pushing too hard. If you have been training hard for this race it can be a bummer to not do it, I say, IMHO,go out and be careful on the run.

Go see a physio. I am a strong believer in their abilities, and go straight there after any sports injury. I usually find that they are a lot more knowledgeable about muscular injuries then a lot of doctors are, and can make a recommendation as to what you should do. They can also do some passive treatment before the race that will make a difference.

I was in a siialr sitaution a couple of weeks ago where I sprained my ankle 10 days before a LD triathlon, and I went to the physio 5 times before the race, and it made a big difference.

Try using a wobble board.

My physio got me on one rite after I sprained my ankle really badly.
Wobble boards help develop a neuromuscular sense called proprioception, which helps prevent the ankle from rolling (among other things).
They also are proven to help prevent knee injuries.

I bought my board from a company called Straightline Balance.
I love my board. It was really well priced and super high quality.

I'm injury free since i've started using one

You can buy them from their website: straightlinebalance.com

Good luck!

Klodge.
What distance is the race anyway? That might help you decide.
You know your body best and only you can decide what it can take.
I agree with Dkidd. IF your knee does NOT bother you to swim and bike, then treat this Tri as a training event. Do the swim and the bike and then play it by ear on the run. Walk if you have to or even stop if your knee gets really bad (don’t want a more serious injury).
DNF’s suck, but at least you get the race experience and you don’t loose your entrance fee.
I also agree with the physio suggestion. I tweaked my knee 3 days before a big volleyball tournament I was in a few years back. Went to a physio a few times before and it was amazing what he was able to do with my knee. It wasn’t 100% but I could play. Pretty sure I would have been on the sidelines without seeing him prior.
Good luck.
