Triathlons and Traveling

Does anyone travel during the winter months to warmer states for races? I live in Michigan and recently did my first triathlon but am worried about the winter months where I will be without competition.

How expensive does traveling and shipping by air get? I can narrow down the expenses driving, but from Michigan to Florida for example is a whole days drive, so I am wondering if it would be more beneficial to just fly and ship my bike.

Anyone ever go this route?

There are a ton of events coming up in AZ over the next 2 months. It's the beginning of the fall season. Call tribe multisport (tribemultisport.com) and talk to Kevin about shipping and bike maintenance for travelers.

He's got a great shop about 10 minutes away from Tempe Town Lake - where most of the races are to be held including the Soma Half and Quarter Ironman (10/2) as well as the Carlos O'Brien Triathlon (10/30).

Check this out. If you are doing IM florida. You can drop your bike off at a partner bikeshop in Detroit tehn pick it up at IMFL.

If you're doing an Ironman race, I definitely suggest tribike transport if they have pickups in your area. I did it for Ironman Arizona and I had a great experience with them. I did have to drop my bike off about a week and a half before the race because I live in South Florida which is probably the farthest point away from Arizona, but it was well worth it. No hassles on the planes, no need to take the bike apart and no crazy fees at the airport.

Alright, sounds good. But my current focus is sprint tri's, so are there accomodations like these for sprint events? I only ask because it seems like a IM or half IM would have better preparations than a quick sprint.

why limit yourself to just triathlons? how bout a snowshoe race? mountain biking in the snow? with the amount of money saved by not travelling, you could buy yourself some pretty dandy winter toys :D

I wonder what kind of crime "Super Energy Outdoors Man" would fight?
