I am a newbie and recently did my first Tri. It was International. Now I am hooked and have been ramping up my training with my eye on a half iron. Suddenly, I am fighting gas terribly. I have not changed my diet, just my training. It is emabarassing!

any suggestions?

Congrats on getting into tris and joining us at Trifuel. Not sure about the gas thing. You say you haven't changed your diet, no protien shakes or recovery drinks? Sometimes that may cause it.

What are you consuming during runs, rides and while racing....? One persons fluid replacement is anothers poison.Gels work for some, bars for others. and it all changes as distances get longer and time on the road increases.
Dehydration can sometimes cause it as the piping suffers as you get drier. Play with your diet and maybe tweeking something will help...and anyway..go to enough races and you'll hear all KINDS of sounds.. so join in!

Does it happen after you swim or before you start the races. You may be swallowing air when breathing in the swim which can contribute. Like the others look at what you ate during and also 1-2 meals before.

Look on the bright side,

If it happens during your swim it can help keep you afloat.

If it happens on the bike or run it keep people behind you and make them drop back.

Sounds like a strategy to me. :D

Have you changed when you eat relative to when you train? Eating closer to workouts or something?

Thanks all for the input. Seems I need to pay closer attention to what and when I eat and try and find a pattern. No easy answers, but some interesting strategy!!

Have you tried an OTC gas reducer like Gas-X or Beeno?

That might help you.
