Damn Aerobars....(syntace)
Hmmm, guess I'll take this one apart.
Could these things have possibly damaged my handlebars, and THATs what is causing them to not be secure on the handlebars? Also, in the placement of your own aerobars, the rubber washers that came with them, where did you place them? Inbetween the U joint and the bar itself? Or did it go between the screw head and the U joint?

Personally I use Vision aerobars, so I don't have much personal experience with the Syntace, though I know quite a few who are very happy with them. The only suggestion that comes to mind is to take a close look at the fit of the aerobar clamps on the handlebars. If the fit is not quite right that could definitely result in the movement you are seeing. Try with and without the washers (my bars are mounted directly onto the handlebars with nothing in between) to see if there is a difference. You may just have an odd combination of aerobar and handlebar that will require a little work to get the fit right.
As for the aerobars scratching the handlebars, there is probably little worry about real damage unless you are talking about deep gouging. A little electric tape in the areas that are getting scratched can be a simple fix.

o2,
Another issue could be that your handlebars are standard size and your aerobars were made to fit oversized handlebars - that is the case with my Profile Design Aerolite bars (in my case the Aerolites came with a shim that is used for mounting them to standard size bars) Usually when a product has that little piece of rubber it is meant to be installed between the full contact areas (not "where the screws are")
OTHER POSSIBILITIES:
Could you have removed the shim and not known it?
Could the bolt/body connection be stripped? or bottoming out?
I checked the syntace website and it doesn't provide the "technical manuals" so it is kinda tough to diagnose the problem..
#6 is what the shims look like on my aerobars (see link)

good luck with the issue..

Thanks for the replies everyone.
RR - Your right, I dont seem to have the shims. Is it for a fact required with the C2 Syntace bars? Anyone know? That'd make a ton of sense!

like I posted earlier, I don't have any of the technical data at my disposal... if you call Syntace and they could tell you
Also A local bike store may know, and may have an extra pair...
(or you can open the box of a new set to see if there are any in there)

Well, I put some electrical tape around the handlebars, to maybe "thicken" up the bar and enable the joints to grab onto something. Well, I got the left aero to stick on there without moving, but the right one wont have anything to do with it. Still moves, less than before, but still moves. Im stumped, Im beginning to think that the "teeth" on the joints are wearing down. Bike shop it goes on sunday.

Well here is my problem, I took off my syntace bars, awhile back for a race in july, I put them back on earlier this month, but for some reason I cant seem to keep them from moving, and tight. I put the rubber wash inbetween the bars and the U joint piece, and it seems as much as I tighten them, they will still wiggle up and down with weight on em. And they are scratchin up the handlebars  Any suggestions? Definitely a NOOB question! I am a noob when it comes to bike care.
