Hello to all: a quick question. I'm still really new to this sport and one of the many problems i'm having is finding the time to train. I was wondering if anyone else out there works nights ,12hr shifts ,65-75 hrs a week. if so ;could you please let me know what works best for you. Do you train before or after work and what kind of plan do you follow. my 12 hr shifts usually turn into 14 or 15 by the time I get home and most days all I can think of is going to bed and getting up to do it all over. thanks for any input.

Hi Lizzardman:
I really try to workout a schedule a week or two in advance (i.e. sit down w/ calendar and pen and write out all my workouts for the next 7-14 days). I usually overplan so I can get some wiggle room if I have to skip a workout. Also, I workout really early in the morning, or late at night. When I can, I'll squeeze in a lunchtime workout. Do you have a gym near where you work and would you be able to sneak out for even a 30-45 min run? Even the shorter workouts help you stay motivated, kwim?

I do think its tough and I work less than you (probably closer to 60 hrs/week). Once you get in the groove of being on a tight schedule it gets easier. I will be the first to admit to you that I'm looking forward to sleeping in for a few weeks after my last race! :) :)

Good luck! HTH!

How far do you live from work? If it's not too far you can always bike or run to work. I've never worked nights while training but I did work nights full time while going to school full time. It's tough to find time for extra things but there is always room to squeeze things in. I know I always made time to go out and party and such if i wanted to bad enough. Take a close look at your week and I'm sure you can squeeze some training in somewhere. Wish you the best.
