Hello all,
I want to ask yall' if any of you have ever had this problem..... I had a DNF on my first 1/2 Iron Race earlier this year. I have kept up on my training and even have done 2 Oly distance races that I got first in my AG. My problem...I have another 1/2 Iron coming up in about 4.5 weeks and I am getting really nervous about it. Is this normal? I was a little nervous about the first one (the DNF,,,,due to Asthma) but not like this. I almost dread the thought and keep second guessing my training and worrying if I have done enough. I have overbiked the distance...up to 65 miles on hilly course...and swim 1.5 miles 3 x's a week, also I have run the 13.1 distance....not fast but pretty steady. Am I just nutz (more than usual) or what. I don't want to over train. I tend to do that. What do you guys think???

hey, first off. Congrats on the age group win! Now, sounds like you have worked and worked up quite well for this 1/2IM. You have done enough. I was the same way (classic overtrainer here). Nervous is normal, especially if you had the background like before (the DNF). But hey, that wasn't your fault.

Just take it easy. Is the goal to finish, then NO PROBLEMO. Relax, sit back and go with the flow, have fun and do it. If it's to win an AG then plan, plan, plan your attacks. As they say Plan your work and then work your plan. Reherse physically and mentally for T1 and T2. Learn the course and try to uncover any unknowns and worries. If you have time before the race to solve any questions do it. This will lead to less anxiety. Suggestions, if you must do more, get another 13 miler in (last one). Relax and taper. You sound like with what you have been doing your ready.

Good luck and remember most of all, HAVE FUN!

BBB,
Thank you so much. I guess I just need to hear from other people what I know but don't seem to put into play. :)

If you DNF'd last time make you first goal to finish. Then go from there

Good Luck

BBB,
I will to be sure... Thanks guys :) And I'll do that one last 13.1 mile run since my running is my weak point at this point. The Asthma seems to affect it more than any other thing. Thanks again!

I know for me asthma kicks in most if I start t worry about it... and then if I relax it gets better. So focus on that finish, and take the run at a pace you are comfortable with. You'll be fine.

I know I'd be more nervous after a DNF 'cause I'd wonder if I could really do it... but I'd be being silly, too. You sound like you are completely ready for this one!

Kyillee,
Thanks so much. I know I tend to over think every thing...drives my poor hubby nutz :D
Beads, I don't leave home without it just gives me confidence when I have it...don't usually have to use it for training but have to for the bike and run part of races.....I get worked up.
