Alveolar Recruitment?

When I was 9, I had the lower third of my right lung surgically removed. I've lived a very athletic life and will continue to do so, God willing. I'm 34 now and have been doing tri's for a couple of years. I've learned a little bit about oxygen extraction, through tri's and some work stuff. I'm aware that the remaining portion of my lung expands to compensate for the third that was removed. But since the circulation around the alveoli (air bubbles) is what is required to extract oxygen, and a number of alveoli were removed when the lung was worked on, does that mean that my vO2 is handicapped? So my HR will be higher to compensate? Do I adjust my zones up or down? Is there any thing elsed I should consider?

Not looking for excuses, just training harder and smarter, looking forward to any input.
