This weekend I competed in two seperate events. At first I thought that it was going to be a little much, but it ended up being my best weekend. On Saturday I competed in a great SPRINT Duathlon. The Duathlon was a 2.5 Mile run, 10 mile bike, 1 mile run. This event was held in New London, WI and it was as much of a full out SPRINT as any event could be.

On Sunday I did the TDS Oshkosh Triathlon. I as usual did the sprint. This is my last tri for the year. I have football starting in three days. As my first season as a trier ends I already can't wait for next season. I plan on spending all winter learning how to swim better. 8 months ago I started on this journey to become a triathlete. I originally planned on just doing one tri, but then I tried another, and another. As I end this year leg of the journey I look back and somehow don't feel like the same person. I am more confident, and I know more about me, some people go into the PEace Corp or go out in the wilderness to find themselves. I feel like I have found myself in the pool, on my bike, and in my running shoes. It's funny, most of the time you are alone putting the miles on, but somehow it feels like all of the people I have met through the sport are with me on the road, encouraging me.

I am going to do a 1/2 marathon this year, and another duathlon in October, for right now I am just extremely happy that the open water swims are through for the year.

Lastly, I wanted to thank any of you that have answered my questions, or anyone elses questions. Sometimes all we ever need is to know that we are not the only people going through this. Thanks for everything and if anyone can tell me what the best bike for my buck is that would be great. I have to be specific on my Christmas list this year or I'l probably get a HUFFY.

Peace, and when the pain comes, embrace it!

Rob

Nice work, that is a busy weekend. With the yucky winter right around the corner, you'll have plenty of time to research bikes. The main thing you need to think of is if you want a tri bike, where the geometery is such that you are in a more areo position, or traditional road bike geometery where you sit up straighter. Personally, this is my 4th season and have gone thrugh 3 bikes. I started with a mountain bike, then bought a used road bike off of http://www.craigslist.org drove that into my garage and bought a new Cerevelo Soloist, an awesome bike which can do both road and tri geometery. But no matter what, test ride.... go sit on the bikes. It's going to take time but you don't want Santa to give you the wrong bike. Good luck on your search and your football season. We'll see ya out there next season.
