What A Difference!!!
GREAT JOB !!
I'm hoping to have my base up so I can be competitive in the OLY's next year...
Keep up the (obviously) good training regiment...

Nice race! congrats on the PR :)
Ahh... I just looked at the official results. I entered in the Athena division (I weigh 162 lbs.) in order to increase my chances of being allowed into my house. :p If I would have entered in my age group, which I consider much more competative, I would have gotten 2nd. That just reinforces how positive this race was for me.
Does anyone else think the "athena" division starts at a really low weight. As you prove, Athenas can be just as (if not more) competitive than age groupers.

I do...you dont HAVE to enter Athena or Clydesdale do you? Isnt that a choice? Maybe a dumb question. For example a healthy weight for my height (5'8) goes to 158. Athena is 150 and up. Does that mean if I am 153 I am too heavy for my height, and not as competitive...I dont get it ?
I'll agree with that. I'm 6'3" and fluctuate around 200lbs, which I have always thought to be an ideal body weight for someone of my build. I'm definately not a runners build, but I am most likely at the lowest weight that I could ever be at and be healthy.
I don't feel like I need my own category. I've always felt that while I am not as quick a runner as many people are, I can make up for it with some extra power on the bike. I don't think I will ever enter a race as a Clydesdale, I'll stick to my age group. Not finishing first gives me something to work towards right?

Yes I totally agree that both the Athena and Clyesdale division weights are to low. There is no way I would ever be looked upon as "heavy" or "fat", but in the world of tris, my weight tells them something different. The guy that won the Clyesdale division; totally ripped, looked awesome, he just happens to be 6'3" which means you are going to weigh more. I'm 6'0", I too am going to weigh more. I've always vasalated on entering in the Athena division, I feel like I'm cheating. But out of all the races that I've done, this is the only one that offers a weight division. So I figure, what the heck, I'll come home with some hardwear. But I don't think I'm going to enter the Athena division any more. Compairing myself to the other Athena competators that were there, it was just as unfair as compairing myself to someone at 130lbs. This will just give me that extra little motivation to get to my weight down and become that much stonger so I can whizz by everyone, no matter their size or weight. But I must say, it's nice being in the same group as a Greek Goddess :D

So 2 weeks ago I partook in the Door County Oly Tri which turned out to be the hottest day in Wisconsin this year(see prior thread for that awuful race, but don't).... On Sunday I did another Oly, but this time in nice, dry California. Oh My gosh, what a difference.
Swim: 27:32. Had a full body wetsuit in some VERY warm water (it's next to a neculear power plant  ) I've always been a crappy swimmer and terrible starter, so I tried something different, start at the front and swim faster, it worked. My previous swim time was 31:49... Was very relaxed and smooth
T1: 2:15...not bad except I forgot to take off my swim cap and goggles, dummy. I discoved a new trick for those that wear sox...scrunch up your sox so you can just roll them up. Works very well.
Bike: 1:12 Found a good rhythem/cadance. Only drank small amount of h2o, more so just to keep my mouth moist. SInce I lived in California my entire life up until April when I moved out to WI., I was really soaking in the scenery, esp. the mountains; something you do not see in WI. Very pleased and I was even on a borrowed bike at that
T2: 1:09 Went well
Run: 47:00 Super hot run on an exposed trail w/ temps approching 100*, but its dry so it felt great. I stoped at the 4 aid stations small sip of h2o and poured the rest on me and then got right back in. Ran w/ a shorter stride, but hight cadence. Sprinted, or at least ran faster, the last 150 meters. Only if I could run the entire race at that pace.
TOTAL: 2:37:45 1st in my age group Goal was 2:45
Overall a great race. This is my PR by 13 min. and my last race for the season. I rested well leading up to the race, so that helped. But I think the biggest factor was the weather, dry heat. My body was actually able to coll it's self. This is my first Oly distance that I didn't stop during the run, so I'm proud of that. During the race I was thinking of what Lance Armstrong had said during the Tour, "The faster I pedal, the fast I'm done." I totaly used that as my motivation. My husband, in a supportive way, said your not coming home unless you get some hardwear, so I left it all out on the course. Thanks honney. This was a great way to wrap up the season :o
