Nervous/EXCITED
If I had to give any last minute advice it would be to practice transition. I had my first race in April and transitions were a neglected part of my preparation. Looking back, I would have saved a little time, but more importantly I would have saved energy by being more relaxed between each leg.
Good Luck.
Jamie
I second that on practicing transitions. I didn't really and cost myself some time and frustration as a result. Also, I'd say get there early so you have time to wander around, familiarize with the layout, and meet some new friends :) Good luck! You'll love it!
My first race is on saturday also not really sure what to expect either. I have two questions, one for T1 how does everyone clean off the sand? Bring a bucket of water or just a few sqirt with the water bottle?
Two, how long will it take until one actually reach a level in their training that they feel prepared for all three legs? Swimming and the cycling is fine, but I wonder if I'll have enough juice left in me the for running in race condition.
Good luck zcowgirl!!!

Good luck to both of you guys...
As for sand issues, I usually just put an extra towel and water bottle by my bike. I've also learned not to be too picky about a little dirt/sand while cycling. Most of it is gone by the time I switch to run stuff, and that's where it would annoy me more.
Go out there and enjoy it. Thats the main thing I can say.
I'm sure people have told you this, but write a checklist down the night before, and bring it to the race with you so you can be sure your transition is set up correctly. Last thing you want is to forget to put your helmet out with all the pre-race jitters (happened to me).
Let us know how it goes.
First thing, Get there early.
Make sure you have your race checklist and you have everything packed the night before.
I bring a small, shallow tupperware container(that can fit both my feet) and an extra water bottle with just some tap water and a foot towel.
If you can practice your transitions before it will make you feel more comfortable.
The night before visualize your race.
When you get there(early) check in and set up your transition.
Check out the water, and wait for the race. relax.
It is just a swim, then a bike ride and then a run, then a snack.
Most of all have fun!! That is what it is all about. :D
Nothing to it, but to do it
Well u knew I was going to have to write something sarcastic since you wrote the advice about buying floaties on my introduction. My only advice is to not trip over my lifeless corpse as you are flying by me on the swim. :-P Since it'll be both of our firsts, if we finish since neither of us know what we are getting ourselves into, that'll be a plus. Anything more then that will just be icing on the cake and more then what we expected. Just don't beat me too bad. hehe. besides, i told mom she has to bring cookies so it can't be that bad.. ;)

Gotta love mom's cookies. zcowgirl ran for my track team the last two years and my mom was the adopted team mom. Now z is helping me coach this year and we're both catching the tri bug.

Thanx Mike. I'll be fine on everything but the swim. Just nervous about that. As long as i dont drown, I'll be fine. Just havin some issues with the back from one of our soccer games 3 wks ago. swim is the only thing that really bothers it. we shall see i guess, Oh yeah. Congrats on the new job!!!

Thanks Coop...don't worry about the swim. It's like I told Z...the swim is 750 meters....then you have 15 miles to kick ass....just get yourself through the swim.
Just think you swim and then you can have the cookies :D
Nothing to it, but to do it

Aight, again another trifueler writes about a nerves for a first race. I can honestly say I love this feeling of not knowing what the hell to expect. My swim I am nervous for the most because this is a new challange for me, I never wanted to get into to swimming because it was hard so I stuck with soccer, x-country and track. I totally gave respect for swimmers big time. Anyways, I know I'll hear replies of to just do it, things will be fine, do what you need to do to finish...i hope ya'll will be right. Any last tips/advice/items I'll take anything. Leave me something if anyone has any of this and I'll be sure to check beforehand. thank you guys for helping me out the past 2 months, I know i will have the confidence because of this site and what we all do to help each other. Thanks.
