Ironman Lake Placid Accomodation
Smittycb10...Have been to Imlp the last 4 years..raced in '03 and 0'4 and was a vol the other years...
It is expensive...Hotels close by to the Transition area..(The center of all things) can be Wildly expensive...the farther on the edge of town the cheaper.
Some Hotels now require a 7 night minimum for Ironweek.
But there are many other options..A good bet is to go to the IMusa site and click on Accomodations...call them up and get some help...they have a good over view.
Best of luck!
You will love IMLP...a great race with good crowd support...the course...NOT boring. Despite what some folks say the bike course is NOT flat...especially the second lap.!

I just raced there. Stay at the Crown Plaza (or any down town hotel for that matter) , expensive, but worth the money. It's as close as you can get to the transition area and event activities. They offer a awesome made to order pasta bar each night and super breakfast buffet in the morining. The location and services make everything less of a hassle. Walking distance to everthing you need. The traffic in and out of the town is insane leading up to and after the race. I think you'll be happier staying close by, I'm certainly glad I did. Not to mention, you can bag a couple extra hours of sleep! They do required a 4 night stay.
And Anton is right, in comparison to the terrain in the Chi-town area this course is not going to look flat!

Book now!!!!!! all accommodations fill up quickly.
Hey trithis04, when did you make your reservation.
view my blog at: http://smittycb10.triathlonlife.com/
most hotels book immediately, the day after the ironman for the following year.
i always booked a year in advance.
most hotels will first take the guests that were staying with them that year and then open it up to others.
you ahve to get someplace fast or you will be camping!!!!!
however, early june, when some athletes decide not to do ironman and cancel their rooms, you may find something.
Smitty,
lindab is right, do it as soon as possible. I think that I made my reservations in Nov. or Dec. '04. They will fill rather quickly. You should call the hotel directly, as the online sites (i.e. Travelocity & Orbitz) don't get deals for the week of the race. If you take care of now you should be ok.
