Training Wheels/Powertap
I train with the Velomax clincher wheels that came with my Cervelo.
I only use the Zipps for races. I am afraid to damage them.
It is also cheaper to replace a tube if I flat on the on the velomax ,
than to replace a tubular on the Zipp's

When aero race wheels were first developed, they were very expensive and very fragile. They required constant maintenance. Nobody trained on them. In the years since, race wheels have become much sturdier. Certainly, if you hit a pothole and trash a wheel, it is more expensive than a training wheel, but today's race wheels hold up to training pretty well.
The advantages of racing on a PowerTap are huge. It will allow more precise pacing and the data is invaluable for future training. The SRM is the best powermeter, but it is very, very expensive. If you're getting a PowerTap, I recommend getting it built on the deepest rim Zipps. Ken

I just saw the price for the a SRM setup $2,600. If you upgrade the crank to DA, $3,400. Sweet I'll order mine next week!

I am thinking of getting a powertap and will need new wheels. I was considering some inexpensive wheels but I will eventually want a set of Zipp wheels for races. I have heard mixed reviews regarding using Zipps for training. I have been told that they are too fragile and I will hit some holes during training. If you have any feedback on training wheels vs. Zipps I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
