I am looking for a good flat resistan tire. I ride some roads on the way to work with LOTS of debri, glass, a-little-bit-of-everything-you-can-think-of. I tried a couple fo tires and the lattest ones, some Bontragers that the LBS said were good, only lasted about a week before a huge gash.
I have some in mind, what are your experiences?
Conti ultra gators
Specialized Armadillos
Michelin pro2 race
Micheling ironman

I have 650 wheels so this alone cuts alot of options.

I ride/commute over bridges and train tracks to work; lots of pebbles, rocks, glass, chips, etc. I use 23mm Vittoria Rubino kevlar tires on my road bike for commuting throughout the year. I weigh 158 lbs and regularly have the first puncture with them in about 3 months. I put a minimum of 200-300kms/week on them and they last for about 4000kms., thus the puncture rate. Great tire for me.

i have the specialized armadillos on my training wheels, i've heard that the michelins aren't so puncture proof, and I know the conti's are great too (maybe even better than the specializeds? - conti's are really the most puncture resistent tire I've seen and that's not just their gators)... they're great, but me+bike+gear =~ 135 lbs so I don't flat very often at all regardless of what tire i'm using...
I recommend the conti's from what I've seen on my teammates bikes.

I've been using the Michelin Pros for awhile (1 year) and haven't flatted with them at all - Boy did I ever just jinx myself.

POC don't you use the TUFO tubular clinchers? What is your take on those? What about puncture resistance, any good? From looking at their websites they have some some hefty "training tires.

I use the armadillos. I have over 1000 miles on them and they're still in great shape. No complaints here.

Gotta say Gatorskins are the way to go for flat protection, use them on my fixed gear, they are bomb proof.

Let me just jump in and offer yet another option:

Vredestein Fortezza TriComps.

I use these tires for both training and racing. I get thousands of kilometres of riding out of a pair of these tires with nary a puncture.

croptop - I might get some fortezza's since I can get my hands on a 650 pair for cheap. I have heard the same thing about them being super durable. How hard is the outter layer?
The problem I have is that I ride in glass and sharp rocks and alot of times i can't avoid them. Right now I have a pair of soft tires which are cut up big time but the mr. tuffy strip is keeping me from flats.

Along those lines, I recommend checking out amerityre.com. They make a tire that is solid, and weighs little more than other tires. However, they do not make road-bike size tires yet. Sooo, help me out and send them a note telling them how cool you think they would be for road bikes!

they have some for road bikes...however they don't make any for 650 tires. I wonder how stiff they ride.

Not sure, you can request a free sample from the company. I would love to give them a try, save a lot of worry about flats during a race!
