Had the strangest thing happen on my ride the other day. The BOTTOMS of my feet got sore. After about mile 80 they felt worse than after my last marathon. Any ideas? New insoles maybe?

huh..i dont know what to say...is it the arch that is sore or the ball of ur foot or ur heel or what....if its the arch, wrap it in duck tape 2 times before you put ur sock on if u wear socks and that will hold it up high, or put heel cups in and that will support ur arch...for the ball of ur foot, mab take a paper towel and fold it a few times and duck tape it to that part of ur foot for more cousion

Brittda, have you though of changing the position of the cleat? Sometimes that can make a difference.

my wife rode her bike across the US, and when her feet started hurting/getting numb, she adjusted the cleats. made a HUGE impact, and she swears by cleat placement as the #1 troubleshooting spot to check when your feet start hurting more than your leg muscles :)

You know, I never thought of that. Would you just move it forward or back , then see how it works? Is there a position that is better than another or is it just trail and error?

Sorry for the dumb questions...cycling is my weak leg and I am not so "mechanicaly" inclined :)

If you want to play around with your cleats brittda here is some advice. It is possible to releive the pain in the ball by moving the cleat back. While the proper position of the cleat is on the ball of the foot, moving it back behind the ball of the foot, towards the heel, places more emphasis on the quads during cycling; works the quads. Some peoples knees also begin to hurt. A general rule for us long distance riders is to put the cleat back as far as it allows if we adjust it from the ball of the foot but make sure the crank to heel distance doesn't change too much. Additionally, if you are to use this method it may be a good idea to lower your saddle. That is to say if you moved your cleats backward 4 mm then lower the saddle about half that amount (2mm).

Good Luck

awesome BBB... I get sore knees while I ride and knew I could play with cleats for it but had no idea what direction to try for what :-)
