I think I may have done something a little silly. Currently I am 1/2 way through a 2 week taper for the spirit of racine 1/2 IM. Everything is going great and I cannot wait to do my first 1/2 IM. The race is on July 24th.

Now here is the silly bit, I have another 1/2 IM 2 weeks later the whirlpool Stealhead tri. Looking back on things these races seem close together but scheduling hassles forced me to do this. So what i am looking to hear from you folks is what should my training volume and focus look like in the 2 weeks between races. Obviously recovery is the main focus.

Suggestions, advice, bets on which race I do fastest???

Easy. You think of the first 1/2 IM simply as a long training day - your last long training day before the second IM. Then you do the same taper that you did for the first one.

Your performance on the second one will probably be better than the first, IF you taper, rather than get excited about ramping up your training again, and then rush a taper. You can't do it.
Your fitness didn't come in two weeks it won't go away in two weeks.

Relax, recover, enjoy.

Thanks for the advice, I will post back when I have done both races to let you know how they went.
I guess the trick is not to get too excited and go and hammer a bunch of training in between the 2 races.

Ya, I agree with PoC. Use the first race as a training day and focus on the second. If yu MUST be competative use only one event of the first race as a 'race' section to test what you have in you, but only one, that way you will be able to make up time. Relax and taper after the race. Only do light workouts to just get the joints moving, that way you will be able to kick butt in the second. Good luck and let us know how you do.

The first race went well guys, the heat was brutal temperatures close to 100. After the swim and bike I felt good, only having to endure short rough period on the bike which was remedied by getting refreshments at a feed station. During the run because of the heat things fell apart rather quickly. Normally my long run pace in training is 7:30 - 8:00 in that heat I struggled to go under 9:00 per mile. Still over all time was 5:29 not bad considering. I have taken two days of rest with massage and streching and feel pretty good right now. I have planned the rest of the week to look like below, please send me your feed back, next race is a 1/2 Iron on Aug 6th

mon jul 25 - rest
tues jul 26 - rest
wens jul 27 run 6 miles easy
bike 25 miles easy spin
thurs jul 28 1 hr easy endurance swim
bike 15 miles at race pace 7 warm up 7 cool down
fri jul 29 run 5 miles at 1/2 marathon race pace
swim 30 mins at endurance race pace 15 w/u 15 c/d
sat jul 30 bike focused brick 40 bike 5 mile run
sun Aug 1st run brick 15 bike 8 mile run
Mon Aug 2nd easy swim 45 min
tues Aug 3rd 15 m easy spin bike
wens Aug 4th 1/2 marathon race pace 5K run
thurs Aug 5th 45 min easy swim
fri - streach
sat - race 1/2 Ironman

What do you think, most of the training is pushed into this week when I am on vacation and will be getting plenty of rest. Too much? Too little? any adjustments needed?

Thanks guys! Just entered Ironman Lake Placid for 2006 so excited!!!!!!!!
