Hey. Anyone out there in the Twin Cities area that could help me out? I am looking for a good place for outdoor hill training. I am good on my bike, flat and down hill :p , but become fatigued quickly with hills. I would like to at least level the playing field with hills. Any suggestions?

Hi Melissa,

I'm out in the burnsville/eagan area and I think there are some good hills out here to train on.... Nothing to terrible but I usually have a route that takes me over at least 8-10 good hills over 30 miles...

I live right next to Penn Cycle off of Cliff so you could start there and just head east and you will hit them, but if you need a training partner for the ride let me know...

It's a little bit out of town but the roads around Afton Alps is where I've done some hill sessions. We usually head out from the golf course. We go out about 8-10 miles then head back to the golf course. It always is a good/hard workout.

Another option is to hit the hills that are on the river road down by the U of M. You would have to do repeats, but if you start on the river road (west side) then take the hill up to the West Bank, cross Wash. then head left and come back under Wash. there is another good hill on the east side. Doing that a few times would be an ok workout.

Though I haven't done it on the bike, when I was training for a 1/2 marathon last fall I would do the hills down by the St. Paul Cathedral. Might be another option.

I would recommend Stillwater for really good hills. There are plenty and you can easily do repeats on them. You can also bike out to Stillwater from downtown. If you're interested I can send you the directions.

Thanks! I am right between the river and the St. Paul Cathedral, so I am going to start there. I really appreciate it.
