Second Spirint Triathlon
I just completed my first tri, and my goal for my next tri is to beat my first finish time. Good luck and have fun!
If it was fun AND easy, everyone would do it!
I think its hard to compare times for tris b/c conditions vary (and in sprints the distances vary). If the two races are of comparable size, think about your place maybe. Either in your age group or overall.

I'm in the same boat as you-I just finished my first sprint race, and have my second one coming up in about 6 weeks.
What I did was take a look at my results from the first race(3rd out of the water, 18mph pace on bike, 8:35/mi run pace), my training patterns leading up to the first race, and set some realistic goals based on that.
For me, that means maintaining my fitness in the water, and working on my running and aerobic endurance a lot, not only so that I can improve my run, but so that I can bike more aggressively(i.e. not worry so much about trying to save my legs for the run). So, I'm going to adjust my training between now and the next race to focus more on getting 1-2 long (40+miles) rides in per week, at least one brick with a long run(5+mi) per week, and two dedicated run workouts per week. Because I'm a strong swimmer, I can get away with only swimming 2x per week to maintain my fitness and continue to work on my form.
Also, given that my next race is significantly shorter (500y swim, 6mi bike, 2mi run), I'm going to work on applying the transition lessons I learned the hard way last weekend to this race. So, here are my goals:
1. Ideally, given the shorter distance and a flatter course, I'd like to get my run pace as close to 7:00/mi as possible, but I will be happy with 7:30/mi.
2. Given the shorter course, I'd like to get my bike speed above 22mph, but I'll be happy with anything over 20.
3. I'd like to go into each transition with a clearer plan than my first race-I can probably shave at least a minute off my time by being more efficient in the transition area.
I realize this has been kind of long winded, but I hope it helps you set some goals for your second race-I find that if I have a goal in mind, it's a lot harder to blow off that long run(did that a few too many times getting ready for the first race...) or sleep through that Saturday morning group ride.
Good luck, and let us know how the second race goes...I can't wait for mine!
