My first tri is in four weeks and I have a few questions. I have been training like crazy, I'm ready for anything but what do you wear? I have tri shorts, proper shoes, goggles, and bike helmet. What kind of a shirt can you wear from start to finish? I"m afraid I will have trouble putting a shirt on after the swim. Same question with shoes, your feet are wet and covered with sand. I'm guessing I probably don't wear socks. I know these are very basic questions, but any information will be helpful. Thanks!

If your water exit is covered in sand you can always prepare by having a towel and an extra water bottle at your spot in the transition area. Just give your feet a quick squirt, a quick wipe, and its into your cycling shoes. Whether or not you wear socks on the bike, you can get them dry by putting some baby powder/foot powder in your shoes/socks before the race. As far as the shirt goes, you need to get a tri-top/singlet. If you are a 9 on the bike you don't want to weaken what is obviously one of your strengths by having a loose-fitting shirt gobbling up air on the bike. A tri-top will be much more aerodynamically favorable.

Good luck,

For your shirt:

Or just go topless for the sprints.

As for your feet, I set my stuff on a small hand towel, just rub your feet on it when ya get to transitions. I've seen people use pans of water, but the towel works very well for me.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Bro don't wear a shirt on the swim. As for the shirt on the bike and run I wear the same shirt. Nike has some cool Dri Fit shirts and they are only 30.00

Chris -

I never noticed. Have you posted a photo of yourself in your favorite apparel?
If so, I think I'll have to download a good filter. :)
