What a fun & encouraging site y'all have. . .I'm happy to be here.

I'm in my 2nd tri season with 3 events under my (tri)belt and 2 more scheduled for this summer. At 42, I decided to stop being an academic and be a jock, instead. Now I'm just as likely to be in my goggles or sunglasses as I am my reading glasses.

I love to swim; tolerate cycling; and running? Ugh. I'll be happy when I can actually run the whole the 3 miles. I just finished reading ChiRunning, which made a WORLD of difference in my enjoyment and ability, so I have hope.

It's supposed to be 104 today, with a heat index of around 110 (high humidity). This makes for tough training. Even at 7:30 a.m., you're drenched after, oh, about 4 minutes of running. WHY do we have triathlons in the summer in Texas!??!! Race organizers know: schedule it and they will come.

I'll look forward to 'chatting' with y'all.

If ever you need help/advice/reviews on training or products, this is by far the best site I've come up with ....

Good luck in all your training.

my wife and i are in giddings, which is just outside of austin.

it is too hot to train nowdays. If you looking for a good hilly (short steep hills) go to bastrop park and ride to buescher state park. My wife and i go there a lot. it is a great place for bike. 10 miles one way with a lot of other bikers.

Yeah it gets really hot here especially with the heat index, but hey we are used to it. I rode 43 miles today at 1:00PM. 97 degrees. Lots of water and accelerade. Good luck

Hi. . . thanks for your notes! Have y'all seen the "You know you're a hardcore triathlete when. . ." discussion? RPatton, I'd say you definitely qualify, riding 43 miles in the heat of the day. Way to train!

Thanks for the suggestion about Bastrop & Buescher--I've never been out there to ride. Once I get used to my new aeros, maybe I'll figure out how to get away from my sons long enough to trek out there!

Have any of you done the tri at Aquarena Springs at the end of July? I think that'll be my next one, followed by Splash, which I did--and really liked--last year.

i think that my wife signed us up for the aquarena.

if you go to bastrop i don't think you will be using your aeros very much. it is pretty curvy and real hilly but it is a beautiful ride.
