Camelbaks for Dogs?
There are those backpacker-type things that can fit on their backs. Usually meant to carry their dogfood, but I imagine there's room for water too. Hey maybe you can turn them into your very own sherpas! ;) Have then carry your phone, wallet, gps, water, keys... just don't let em get away :)
Maybe Blitz could send from Switzerland one of those little whiskey barrels the St. Bernards wear around their collar. You'll have to decide whether or not to switch to water, though.

I also train with my dog. Freya is an Alaskan Malamute and needs Lots, and Lots of water/gatorade mix. I asked my vet and he said the mix would not bother her and she likes it. Anyway I run long with my camel bac and I just aim the hose at her and squirt and she drinks it from the hose without touching it (eww...dog germs  ).She is pretty smart but I have seen other dogs at trail races do the same thing so I think anyone can learn it. Just my 2cents.

Thanks for the responses (and yes, Hitman, I had already considered the St. Bernard barrel option!). Turns out that PetSmart does carry a Hydration-on-the-Go system for dogs. Here's the link for anyone else who might be interested.

My dogs love Gatorade too. They drink out of my squirt bottles no problem (I usually don't care about the dog germs -- I figure they wake me up by licking my face every morning, so the damage is already done!) But, I may still invest in their own packs simply to avoid my turning into their sherpa.
Happy training!

that dog hydration pack is awesome!!! i have a pannier-style pack for our backpacking trips but am hesitant to strap it on for running as it is a bit large, overkill for a run around town.
my mutt is going to love it!!

Just for the record: my dog is dumb as a box of rocks but still learned to drink from a water bottle. She makes an excellent sherpa. As for the dog germs - I find dog hair everywhere, as I assume a lot of other dog owners do - beneath the insoles of my running shoes, woven into my cycling shorts chamois (yeah, a big eww on that one), on the "clean" dishes, etc. so I've accept I've contracted Black Lab Cooties.

I could send you this st. Benard Flask hitman and one to Tamara if you really are serious. BTW: we put cherry brandy in the flask and not whiskey. Gaterade would be something all together new. That would make a great add for Gaterade in Switzerland. Maybe I should send a toothbrush too for Tamara???? Just kidding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I like dogs, except when they are chasing me. God, the Swiss have so many dogs. Go jogging at four in the afternoon, and get your pants ripped up. That's why I prefer the cars on a highway with my racer, than the forrest on my mountain bike. At least the cars don't bite.
The best way to train with your dog is find a river to run along side. No river? a gutter will do just fine.
Try R.E.I. I think I saw something there in their cataloge once.

Blitz ~ On behalf of my dogs, I'm officially offended! But a flask full of brandy (accompanied by a box of Swiss chocolate) might actually go a long way towards an apology. :-)

Hi Tamara,
That was below your Gatorade belt. Sorry Tamara.
Perhaps I could interest you in a chocolate filled with cherry brandy. If you eat enough of them you can even get a buzz. They taste really good. I can' t recommend this for your upcomming Two sprints though.
The Lindt Sprüngli Factory where they make them is just along the Iron Man, Zürich Tri route. You can smell the melted chocolate when you bike by. Really! Makes you start feeling hungry. I am just doing the sprint there on the 16th of July.
Better stick to sharing the gatorade with your dog, it is certainly more healthy. Sorry for being so cheeky. It seems to be a personal weakness I have.
Best regards, Blitz

camelbaks on dogs - classic, it looks fine, but i dont think my dogs would be too happy with a camelbak on them, they hate it when i make them wear hats to keep them warm

I know this sounds crazy, but I assume I'm not the only one who trains with their dogs. Does anyone know of any sort of equipment out there that allows a dog to carry a water bottle (i.e. like a camelbak or something?)
I usually carry only one 24oz bottle on my runs (and refill at water fountains if necessary), but it empties a whole lot quicker when I'm splitting it with my two running buddies!
Thanks!
