I completed my first triathlon last Sunday and had a blast! I finished the Sprint distance at the Woody's RV World Triathlon in Red Deer Alberta
Just like everybody told me in this site - there were all shapes and sizes out there and I fit right in.
My swim was 750 m and was in an outdoor 50m pool -I took a smidge under 20 minutes which was great for me since my previous fastest was 22 minutes. The bike was 53 minutes for 20k which was a little slower than I thought I was going - I was passing people all over the place, I pushed hard down the hills and not just up the hills, kept my cadence up etc. My run was awesome : 27 minutes for my 5'9" 180 pound self is way faster than I used to be. I felt really strong and even went for a run with my running partner on Monday after school (felt a little sluggish but not sore) - maybe I should have pushed even harder during the race :o
I don't have all my exact times - we didn't have anything to write them down with handy so my husband said "it'll be on the website soon" and I am impatiently waiting :D It was very well organized and well set up for first timers - highly recommend it.
The best part was my husband beaming away whenever I went by and then the kids yelling "Go Mom go!" and friends cheering me on - today at school (I'm a teacher) they even mentioned it in the announcements - they are very proud. They've watched me drop 100 pounds over the last 2 years and they are amazingly supportive!
Looking for the next event now...............
Awesome! Way to go - sounds like you had a great first race. Sorry I wasn't there myself, would have been if I could have gotten out of work. Plan to race up here anytime?
Results should be out on Results Canada pretty soon if they aren't already.
Great result and congratulations on your first tri. I imagine that this is the first of many to come.

Great race - congratulations on your first tri - you're part of the "family" now. Good luck with your future races.

Great job! You should be proud. What a great example you are for your kids, both your own and the ones at school. Especially for the girls. Girl power!
Lisa :)
That's awesome
Man that's really cool!!
There is no feeling like that of finishing a tri for the first time!! I did my first one last September and it was an all womens one. Boy, u talk about inspiration. These women were so funny and helpful. I actually got my pic taken a few times!! And got a medal!! Pretty cool to return to work and brag about it.
Good luck w/ future tri's. I suspect this won't be your last one :p
