If you had the money to buy what would you do? I am looking into a disc or Hed 3 front and back. If you don't mind help me out with some reasoning for both and some drawbacks for both. I need your help Trifuelers, come through for me!

I do not have experience with the hed or a disc wheel. I race on the mavic carbones. If I were you I would think long and hard about getting a disc just because your spending so much on a wheel that you might not get to even ride on if it is windy. There are others who have the hed's so I will let them give better advice. Good luck and just think about the disc before you decide.

If you want a place with really good wheels and totally amazing customer service go to http://www.nimble.net ... I race on a set of the flys and I totally love them...

Kevo,

I went through the same thing in January. Based upon my size (6'4", 200 pounds), I decided to go with the HED-3 Carbons, also tubulars!. My wife bought me a Renn Disc to go along with the Tri-Spokes.

I have two things to note with the HED-3 Carbons.

1) The Carbon braking surfaces eat brake pads. I bought a set of Kool Stop Ceramics, for $10 a wheel, you'll get 150-200 miles out a set of brake pads. I swap the Kool Stops out for racing only.

2) At lower speeds ( under 18mph ) and when it's windy, I notice a flutter in the front end. What I mean is, when the Front Spoke move between the Aero Forks, the handlebars wiggle just a little. It's not enough to cause you any discomfort, but the first few times you experience it, you wonder what's wrong. I race with this combination, and I feel comfortable enough with it now to go fast!

Also, the Lance Armstrong 'Coolness Factor' is in play with the HED-3C. According to the Team Discovery Web Site , this is the Front Wheel on Lances Time Trial Bike :D

I have the HED-3's front and rear - Went with the HED-3 instead of the HED-3C mainly so that I could stay with clinchers and use standard brake pads etc. Also I don't have someone aging tubulars for years for me like Lance does!
I haven't felt any front-end flutter in cross winds.
I think these are great wheels, you won't go wrong with either the 3 or 3C.
