Base?
'Base' is an aerobic foundation. You build on it to become faster. Think of it as a foundation for the house. The stronger the foundation the better the house will stand.

Base is very important I would really focus on base for a year or two until you really get a great aerobic base. Focus on really long slow rides in low zone 2 and sometimes mid zone 2 but I wouldn't go much higher than that. Hope this helps.

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't you are right!
Good posts above. A "base" is a combination of endurance training done at a very light intnsity, some kind of strength training, and work on technique. The three most basic abilities to complete and endurance event are ... the endurance to last for the required distance, the muscle to make our movements efficient, and the neuromuscular skill to use those muscles efficiently. These qualities need to be addressed each season before more advanced abilities. Therefore, training intensity is kept relatively light during base period. I'll be happy to send the chapter "Planning a Season" from my book The Triathletes Guide to Run Training to anyone who writes me at Good luck this season, Ken

I read a-lot here about bases. What exactly is a base? I am figuring it is the minimun workout/training done in a week, but am not for sure.
If it was fun AND easy, everyone would do it!
