A friend of mine who works in the shoe industry said that they are only supposed to be worn about twice a week. I don't know why, but that's what he said

Glbrum,

your friend is only partially right...

the nike free shoe is designed to help people learn to run barefoot... (I hear you , Im never gonna run barefoot)

read the article and learn a little more about the shoe...
(personally, my asics work for me)

I have a pair and actually use them more than twice a week. I try to limit them to about 3 miles at a time though. I have a neutral foot so there are really no issues with any lack of support. I think the biggest thing is to make sure you don't start using them too much too fast. I actually use mine without the laces and they are extrememly light. If it is a short enough distance I even use them for my race shoes.

Wow...on a side note....just as I hit "submit" I realized that username above me looked familiar....were you at the Callaway Gardens Sprint race earlier today?

They are def. not a regular training shoe. They could theoretically be used everyday for a short, short distance, but not too much, no matter how perfect your foot is.

Barefoot running has its advantages, and as much as a good idea as the shoe is, find yourself a football field of golf course and so barefoot strides there. I do em 2- 3x a week. you really, really get a feel for your footstrike, and I think the shoe would negate some of that advantage, as your foot won't be as intimate with the ground, having your senses dulled.

So $90 for a occassional training shoe, that is, by the way, BUTT ugly? Not from my wallet, there's a lot of other things $90 can buy.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I have not been impressed with anything from Nike since the 180 and Hurache.

Nike shoes are Garbage in my opinion. Unless you are working on building up the bottom layer of skin on your foot forgatabout it. Find a sweet foot ball field and run laps barefoot. You will look like a bad ass any way going bare foot. If your looking for a pure light race shoe check out the Asics Magic racer. 7 ounces sweet support and totally American looking in red white and blue. Nike failed to warranty some running shoes that i had worn for all of three months. I busted the cheap mesh on the sides of the shoes. During turns on the track my foot would literally start coming out the side of the shoe. I sent it in with receipt and all, they said it doesnt meet criteria for warranty replacement. I said whats the criteria never got a response back from em. Have not bought another product since then, that was two years ago. I wear asics and truely believe they are the best running shoe company in the world. The only thing Nike has that i respect is Lance Armstrong.

Sounds like ya had some bad experiences, I used Nike shoes for the first 5 years of running. Never had a problem with quality, tho I know others occasionally did, and all shoes do. The only reason I stopped is cause they changed my shoe design, and it didnt work for me anymore. I still have some Nike flats that I got my Junior year of HS. I use Asics now, too. I really like em, tho with this new pair, some stitching came out the first time I laced em up. But, no I dont like the free, and most other Nike shoes.

I think Nike is more concerned with the fashion market than serious athletic shoes. I too wore Nike sneaks for more than a couple years (mid 90's), but l slowly noticed a lack of quality and durability emerging in their products.

Yeah, and serious runners love those SHOX things!

I think this is going to be the first thread were I have something valuable to say.

I don't care a bout Nike or their marketing efforts. But I can sure tell you that the whole concept behind the Nike Free shoes it what all people considering themselves serius runners should learn.

I have been learning the POSE Method for a while and I can tell you it has totally changed my way of running and got rid of many discomforts that could lead to injuries (and that actually had lead to injuries in the past).

I'm familiar with the whole "serius runners" don't use Nike. But...... I can assure you this is the first pair of Nikes I'm considering to buy. And not only for a few training sesions but for every damn run I do.

POSE recomended the Classic Puma H.Street because it has a very thin sole and gives you very good flat contact with the ground. I guess they are going to support Nike Free 4.0 because of the better specs.

You should consider checking this out guys!! It really has changed my way of running.
www.posetech.com
You should check it out and you will have another idea about running and if you give it a try I can assure you you will cut back minutes in your current personal running records.

Hope it helps.

We my track team went up to Penn Relays in April there was a booth that athletes (and other people) could try on the shoes and have a "test" run with them. The "test" was in a tennis court with a obstacle that the runner did. Anyways, my friend and I put on a pair and did this "test". As an experienced runner I wasn't to impressed. I liked the weightless shoe and loved feelin' "free" so to speak but the shoe isn't really a trainin' shoe. If wanting to go out and run barefoot go somewhere that is well "cleaned" where there isn't like rocks, glass (football field maybe) but all in all the shoe isn't worth the cash. You have your bare feet to run on and payin' almost $100 bucks for somethin' you prettymuch have....eh. Hope that helped too along with the others.
