All,

Went out today and rode the 2005 Duathlon Pro National Championship Course (Mason, Ohio) today. I rode to the course, then the course, and back home. A total of 31 miles, and I finished with 1:29:15. First time I've broken 20 mph for more than 30 miles.

The entire ride felt really good, a little on the hot side, the hills didn't bother me, and I noticed that I was keeping my cadence in the 90-95 range most of the ride. The flats I did notice that I was pushing the pedals a little harder, and it felt fine.

Maybe the higher cadence is where I need to be spending more of my riding time.

Anybody else spending a majority of their time in the 95+ rpm range?

BTW: The course was VERY rough, I wouldn't have used my HED-3C's on the road, even for a race.

All my time is spent in the 90-100rpm range. I rode 42 miles today, avg cadence of 92, but that includes my traffic slowdowns and such. Glad ya had a good ride, its always a good feelin.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

Thats awesome greyhound. I usually am in the high 70's and low 80's I find that I am more of a power guy but in this next off season I will start working really hard on my cadence. If that cadence range works for you then stick with it. Good luck to you!

Don't have a computer w/ cadence but from counting i am usually in the 9o-100 range. Any slower and my legs just push too hard, which I can do, but not for long rides.

A faster cadence is the way to go. I did a 1/2 IM yesterday and maintained a cadence of 95 - fair amount of hills. That was 21.6 average. Keeping the leg spinning - keeps them fresher for the run.
Some tend to think that higher cadence means going easy - not the case. Not talking an easy spin in the SCR. Pushing a large gear at a high cadence is what gets it done.
