what did i step on?

yesterday i went swimming in the bay. i walked through a lot of slimy muck to get to the open water swim point. now i have what looks like hives all over the bottom of my insole. it's so itchy- like posion ivy. yuk! any ideas?

Not sure if this is an issue by you, but were you standing around long enough before you got in the water to get chiggers?

Portugese man of war (invertebrate), Lacie Peterson's head, baby sea urchins, hypodermic needles/syringes, a chemical solvent remnant that you are allergic to, sunken oil gunk from an old spill, .........

OMG, (LOL) too funny!!!

the hives have disapeared. it looks like a bite or a puncture now that the swelling has gone down.

Maybe a jellyfish (although I think it's a little early in the season for them on Long Island). I was stung by one not too far from where you are when I was young and it was all hives and itchy/stingy, but went away in a day.
