I thought that eating better and working out is supposed to give you more energy, but it seems that i am tired during the day but wake up when it is time to train.

Anythoughts on this?

It's your body adapting to what's most important... Training!!!! ;) Actually, how often are you eating.. I notice myself getting groggy when I need to eat, so I eat all day long, almonds, bananas, apples or PB&Js... All day long! Plus I go to sleep at 8pm and get up at 4.. Training is tiring and your body's natural habit will be sleep to slow down all processes except those to help it repair.... I sleep like a baby at night! and I eat like a mad man during the day!

rb85cj7,

I'm tired too. My eating is decent, and I take lots of supplements (I'm an Herbalife Distributor and we have tons of stuff for energy ) but with all the added workouts, I think gchilton is right, my body is just getting used to things. This is only my second week of training, and I feel like I'm sore all over. It's a good sore, and I am in love with Tri, even though I haven't even had my first race yet, not until October.

Make sure you listen to your bod and rest it when you need it. Just my .02, but you are not alone!!

Have a great day!

I'm in the same boat with you-I am training pretty hard(at least for a newb...), and I'm finding that at least a couple nights a week I need to get 9-10 hours sleep instead of the 8 that used to do me just fine(6-7 when I wasn't exercising at all...). One thing I've noticed has a dramatic effect on my energy level is hydration-if I let myself get even a little bit dehydrated during the day, I start to feel really sleepy and heavy.

Once your body starts to adjust to your training (which will happen more quickly with good nutrition and adequate rest) you'll start to feel better and better, and you'll notice your workouts will get more rewarding. Also, make sure you're resting enough-if you're going to get out there and push yourself like we all do, then you've got to get the necessary sleep and take recovery days to let your body heal itself.

Above all, listen to your body-I took most of last week off because I wasn't feeling very well and my first day back on the bike was unreal-I was averaging about 2-3mph faster over my whole ride, on a route I've ridden a lot lately, with the same effort I usually put out.

Don't worry, you're doing fine-and remember, the kind of tired that you get from working out is a very different feeling than the kind of tired that comes from sitting on the couch and eating pizza...

It is weird. i'm not sore really it is just that i am tired. i could take one heck of a nap right now.

I try to eat well and get as many carbs as i can. i usually stay around 60-25(fats)-15.

I guess becuase i am trying to lose weight and therefore eating less than i am burning, isn't helping my energy level either.

I usually do my swim workout during lunch at a YMCA near my office. If I am feeling a little tired I will go out to my car and catch a midday nap and skip the workout that day.

Rest and recovery is where you get your gains from training. It will not hurt you to get some rest. Just don't make it a habit and do it more than 2 days in a row. Unless you are sick or after a major event.
