Hey Darrell,
I am doing some of the HFP races . MY next is Ceaser Creek International, and I have the Great Buckeye Challenge scheduled..the 1/2 Iron...I'll get it done this time. Also I am doing the Pineman 1/2 Iron in Sept. I am not doing any Ultra fit or Fat Rabbit this year....they have good races just a time and money constraint. How was Deer Creek? I think you mentioned that you were doing that one. I hear it is hilly.
Luck in your training,
Chris

Chris,

Deer Creek was really pretty flat, there were a couple of rollers, and in the last 3 miles or so, there were a couple of bigger hills, but I didn't get out of the Aerobars for any of them hills. I even kept the cadence around 90 rpm.

Caesars Creek has a big hill "The Beast" 12-24% grade, 400 meters, with a dogleg left near the top. Look for me at Caesars Creek, I'm the guy pushing the big silver GURU Racelite with the HED-3C wheels.

Good luck on training for the 1/2's. I thought about the Buckeye Challenge, but it's too close to other HFP Duos!

Darrell,
I had heard that about Caesar Creek. I am Ok with the hills most of the time. Not fast or anything but I get up them. And if not I get off and walk, it depends on the day it seems. You you 'll know me, I'll be the tall, cushy one pushing the Silver Specialized Allez :D I'll prob be behind you anyway. I usually am in the middle to the rear of the pack...Luck in your racing

Well i'm getting ready for my first tri. I'm going to be attempting Buckeye Lake. As long as I can survive the swim I should be ok since my background is running and i've been involved in endurance sports for a little while.

Darryl,
It was really good to meet you at the Ceasar Creek race. I didn't get to see you finish, cause I was still out there plodding along..My running is not going well this year but I'm working on it. You however looked good when you passed me on the run loop. I am again going to bother you with some more ?? :D As you are the resident expert....How is Buckeye Lake as far as hilly. I ask because one discripion of hilly and rolling is anothers just rolling. Is it about the same or more hilly than Ceasar Creek?? I'm doing the 1/2 Iron distance. Are you racing this one?
Thank you so much for the help.
Chris...who has to drag her lazy self out for her long run.

Hi, all! My husband and I are both originally from Ohio and so get back a few times per year to visit our parents. Is there an Ohio triathlon website with a good calendar of events? It would be fun to try and do a race out there sometime next year just to have the extra cheering section amid the spectators. thanks!

Chris and Tamara,

Sorry, I haven't ridden the Buckeye Course. I'm going to be travelling that weekend, and will miss the fun. I did run East Fork International Duo today, the ride was really interesting, 3 miles into the ride, a huge thunderstorm moved in, and made everything soggy. I've never ridden with my shoes full of water before...

Tamara, there are a couple of Tri sites for Ohio, I'm affiliated with HFPRacing.com, I use the Bike store, and race the Tri/Duo Series that they sponsor. There is also FatRabbitRacing, and probably a couple of others. The HFP Web Site publishes the new calendar in the Nov/Dec timeframe, come on over and race with us!!!

Thank you Darrell. I bet it was fun riding in the rain. How far was your ride and then you still had to run right? Brave soul. I don't like riding in the rain so much, I always worry that my brakes won't work and the back of my jersey gets all gray from road gunk. Have any idea of a way to get that mess out? Tamera..I also use the HPF and Fat Rabbit sites also Ultrafit has a few races. Come on over sometime soon

Chris,

I've soaked the jersey in Shout and Water, and it's going into the washer right now. The International Distance had a 24.8 mile ride, and the last 21 were in the rain, started with a downpour and ended up raining off and on through the rest of the ride. I trashed a set of brake pads at East Fork. There is a monster downhill to the finish, and at 35mph down the hill, I had to stand on the brakes really hard to keep from hitting a couple of Sprint Folks who were crossing the road without looking. So, I smoked the brakes, the pads were already used, but I finished them off.

I was scared at several locations on the rain, since the road had the large arrows painted on the road, and I didn't want to hit them really fast, and end up dumping my bike. So, I took the corners really slow, and probably lost a couple of minutes on the ride.

chris - Last week I rode the sprint distance out at Buckeye Lake. From what I hear the International distance is a little more difficult. 204 out to where the sprinters turn is rolling hills. After that i'm not too sure what its like. not too terrible but I live around the zanesville-cambridge area where flat land is at a premium. lol. I can tell you that once u get back towards town and turn onto Geiger Rd., it's not that bad of a ride to the finish. The road isn't the greatest of quality but i've riden on worse before. It's a back country road (thank goodness it's paved).
Well that's about all I can tell you. I'm probably going back out this week sometime to ride and run. It's going to be my first tri so if i can survive the swim, i'm looking forward to the rest of it. Good Luck.

Chris,

The Shout and Water seemed to do the trick.... I ended up 12th overall in the International Duo, 20 seconds or so behind 11th.

Darrell,
Congrats on your finish!!! And I'll try the Shout on my jerseys. Looks like no rain for a couple of days. Been slacking a little this week (had a 20 hr training week last week  ) So I had to take 2 whole days of recovery.... Back at it today. How many days ,if any do you generally take during a training cycle???...I ask because we are about in the same age group, although you are in better condition.
Chris...scheduled back at it today

Here's a typical week:

M 8-10 mi tempo run
T 4-6 mi recovery run
W 35 mi ride, 4-6 mi recovery run - Winter ( Mile Repeats )
Th 6-8 tempo run
Fri Off
Sa 12-24 mi long run
Su 35-40 mi ride - Winter ( 6-8 mi run - Fartleks )

Now, sometimes I may miss a day due to bad weather, family issues, Acts of God, etc. These mileages are typical, come days maybe more or less. My biggest running week this year has been 58 miles. That's the most I've ever done without getting hurt.

Yesterday, I only rode 15 miles, and ran 6, a thunderstorm cut my ride short...
