I am doing the LaGrange/West Point Olympic in July.
I've heard the Parks series are good. I know some people on here do them, I have not yet.

Chris,
Have you signed up for the "burn the bridges" run in charleston at the end of july ? (its 7.2miles or so)
it will be the last event prior to destroying the two old bridges ...
My brother lives in charleston and is a marathoner.. he and his buddies are getting up and running
all the major bridges in charleston prior to running in the burn the bridges ...
he said its about 22 miles of bridges...

Man! I wish I had known about that one this weekend! I have done 2 of the Tri the Park ones and they are good. Nicely done. I just started in May, so I'm still sorta new to it all. Good luck the weekend!

comet,
that is a goal of mine, to build my distances up so that I can compete at the oly and 1/2IM distances...
but that will probably be after next year..
for the meantime, im just going to focus on sprints, 10K's and saving up for a tribike...
(could you imagine riding 50 miles on a mountainbike??? )

Ouch, I would wait to do anything longer than a sprint until you buy a bike. I didn't do longer until I bought one too.

rredding-
I live in Lawrenceville and I'm doing the Tri the Parks (Indian Springs) sprint this weekend. We did two last year (Indian Springs & High Falls) and they were great. We'll probably do High Falls again as well.
Good luck on Saturday - Ant

I am doing Indian Springs this weekend. There is a sprint in Carrollton on July 17th that is a great race for beginners. It is a smallish race and the bike is on country roads that are pretty smooth. I will probably do either West Point or Richard B Russell Oly distance one of the following two weeks. TRI-PTC is a great race, the club that puts it on does a great job.

I did the Indian Springs this weekend and the Fort Yargo earlier last month, both of these were great races. Try to do some of these next year.
Also my first tri was last year, the Cohutta Springs in North GA. This was a longer sprint, 800m, 18miles and 4 miles. I would recomnned giving this one a try. Nice semi-flat bike course I'l,l be there again this year to beat my old time.

When is the Cohutta Springs race? I did Indian Springs this weekend also - what a blast. I'd like to try an oly next year, and that Cohutta Springs may be a good start.

Last year it was on Oct 3rd. I don't see where its listed yet for this year. Here is the link to last year's page. It also has previous years up. Fun race, great bike course, moderately tough run.

How'd you do at Indian Springs?
ubdawg-
Thanks for the link - I'm going to check it out. I actually posted about Indian Springs - I had a great race - 11 minuted better then last year - I finished in 1:37 - not stellar but I'm very happy.
How'd you do?
"90% of the game is half mental" Yogi Berra
The race went real well. I knocked 5:30 minutes off my time from the Fort Yargo in May. Of course I realize that the bike course was off by 4/10 of a mile, so acutually only improved by about 4 minutes. That was my 3rd tri and I finished 1st in the novice group. Looks like its time to start joining the age groupers.
Have fun training for the Olympic and good luck.
Congrats on your finish ubdawg - that's great! Are you doing any other races in the series? I think we're doing High Falls in August.

Thanks.
No, unfortunately the Tri-Parks are a little pricey(although well run). I have two more for the season. The Frantic Frog in Scottsboro, Alabama and the Sunbelt Cohutta Springs. Maybe I'll do High Falls next year.
Frantic Frog- scottsboro, AL sprint
Chattanooga Waterfront, Chattavegas, TN olympic
Richard Russell olympic
Hiwaay, Huntsville, AL(CHEAP) sprint
Mountain Lakes, Guntersville, AL sprint
West Point Lake olympic
ya'll come on down south, we'll take care of ya', hear?!

Hi All,
New member here. Are there any other sprints which any of you plan to do, besides the Tri at the Parks series and the Peachtree City Tri. I am either going to do the P'tree City Tri or go to SC in Aug, for the Greenville Triathlon. Do most of you stick to local (GA only) races???
This is my first season, and I have completed a duathlon, a tri, and the Peachtree Road Race. While I am continuing to train, I am focusing on my swimming. Any suggestions from anyone? Should I lengthen the races that I run? I am doing the Peachtree City Classic (15K) and the Atlanta Half Marathon, to train for longer run distances for longer triathlons.
so, who has done the Richard B. Russell tri? what is course like? 1.5 weeks to go...

I will be racing the Hammerhead OLY Aug. 28th in the FL panhandle. Anyone else gonna be there?
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
OLY....
Maybe next year if I can raise my base over the winter...
OK...
Maybe end of next year....
Good Luck Guys...
OH, CSK,
My wife an I have only signed up for GA races, but this is our first year. Next year we are going to do the Daniel Island Tri (charleston, sc) and right now I have been looking for another one towards the end of the season this year (October/November - ish)

I just gotta ask,
Who of you regularly compete in the races(list distances) in and around the atlanta area...
I know that Tri the Parks has several (ive heard they are good) around atlanta
Im getting ready for my first one this weekend it is kind of a baby sprint in calaway gardens..
400M SWIM (ive heard in less than 5' of water)
10mi BIKE (flat)
2mi RUN (also flat)
I have also signed up for the race in Peachtree City (regular distances) on AUG 27
Id just like to hear from the people who train or compete in the area..
