I was just curious what is the best way to get fast all around on the bike. I know I am going to get the same old answers about intervals and yada yada yada..... But what do you guys say is the number one thing that has helped you get fast on the bike. Is it just putting in really really long distances? Is it years of consistent riding? Or is it the really fast intervals that get you there? Just trying to spark an interesting conversation.

Thanks guys happy training!!!

how do u get fast on a run..how do u get fast on a swim....base building then interval....practice and rest..practice and rest..hill workouts...get that base down first...work with the heartrate....my 2 cents..

If you get a flat, and don't have a tube, Suck it up and run it in!!!

It is everything combined.

Technique
Proper Setup
Interval Training
Long Distance Training
Weight LIfting To Strengthen Leg Muscles
Proper Nutrtion
Getting Enough Rest/Recovery

Everything has to be in place if you want to see big changes and results.

Good Luck!

Time in the saddle, thats what its all about. Those long ass five hour rides are the ones that are going to make you improve from learn how to climb, will allow you be to most proficient on the bike. All the other stuff that is above is important as well. Start logging that time before you know it, it will be second nature.

It takes a few seasons of riding. Long slow base rides...don't think so much about the interval stuff.

Ride with people that are in better shape than you, that like to sprint to city limit signs, stop ahead signs, jump on hills, etc. That's how I get in shape the quickest, stay motived, and get faster too

I'd say if you have a strong base system from other sports, you can do some ya know, riding w/ faster people and townline sprints, etc at least in the summer... If you don't have a great base then just long slow rides, nothing above zone 2 for a while (and after tri season is over go back to a couple of months of low intensity training regardless of the base you have)...
