My front derailure quit shifting to the small ring, I don't use it much but yesterday I was about to go up this MONSTER overpass and i shift down and nothing happened. When I got home a quick check and the cable moves when I shift but the derailure does nothing. I can shift so the cable is loose then push the derailure over to the small ring but it won't do it on it's own anymore. How can I fix this? I haven't used the small ring in a couple months so...Am I supposed to lube it somewhere? Any help would be appreciate it.
Oh yeah I looked at the Shimano website and I saw the diagrams but I still don't know what do to (Tiagra FD4400)

If you look at the diagrams again, you notice there are two screws. One will move the derailleur towards the large ring, the other move towards the small ring. It sounds like you need to adjust the screw that will move towards the small ring.

Before you start turning screws though, look at the position of both screws, and turn one 1/2 turn. Then see what happens. Always keep track of how much and which way you turned the screw(s)... That way, if you mess something up, it's easy to get back to where you were.

Or maybe there's dirt and/or corrosion in the derailler at the pivot. A squirt of WD-40 might be a quick fix. A more extensive cleaning would be better.

Im with the hitman, check the derailleur for any corrosion, If none is present, check to make sure that the spring is present and looks to be working properly...

Also check the cable, is it properly secured by the cable retaining bolt (when you move the shifter, does the cable just move through the cable retaining bolt or does it move at all ... (cable could be broken somewhere within the housing...

check the tightness of all the bolts (especially any pivot bolts/nuts that could be too tight and be restricting free movement of the chain guide unit...

other than that.. check a Local Bike Shop (LBS)

good luck with it...
