Where to swim?
Hey I work in Irvine and just swam at the Irvine Waterworks pool on my lunch! They have adult lap swim there it is about 15 min away from where you are. Additionally, Crown Valley YMCA pool on Crown Valley Parkway has adult lap swim from 6pm-8 or 9pm and it is $2.50. You can mapquest them if you need to. Both pools are about 10-15 min from where you are in Laguna Hills. i think there is a YMCA pool in Laguna Hills or Mission Viejo but not sure where. Let me know if you need more info.
Duh, i missed the "Ocean" part. There are several places in Laguna that are good. YOu can go right off Main Beach (downtown Laguna there is a boardwalk there you can't miss it) and swim outside the waves ...there is a hotel called the Montage in South Laguna and they have a beach you could swim there but there are some rocks you need to watch for. There is a beach I use but if you are not from this area you may not understand the instructions as it is between a lot of homes on PCH. Hope that helps...let me know if you need more info.
There are a number of tris held at Crystal Cove
(I'm also from Irvine... outdoorgirl -- are you ever looking for training people? I see bike is your good leg and I could use a buddy on longer rides....)

So last night after work I went down to Laguna Beach to check it out. I have a couple of questions about it.
1. Where was the sun?
2. Do you just walk out past the waves and just start paddling? I would be afraid of getting hit by body surfers.
Something good did come out of my little trip, I had a killer Margarita at Las Brisas.
When I've gone, it was a swim practice held in the ocean. We'd walk/swim out past the waves (depending on what we could do and were comfortable with), and then pick a direction and swim just beyond where the waves break. Then we'd swim back to where we entered, and practice coming in (ie using the waves to help you, and being ready to get hit by them, and getting your legs working to carry you out of the water).

Yummy! Las Brisas. Javiers also has great margies. Follow the instructions from Kyilee...you can body surf in if you feel ok in the waves. The key is to getting past the waves by ducking under them then you should be ok to swim. Just watch for rip currents and know if you get stuck in one to swim to one side or the other than you will get out of it. Most of all don't panic.
(Kyilee we have emailed a couple times...I would be totally up for a ride. i am strong in bike but riding a mountain bike still, road bike to come in the fall. Let me know in the future what your training plans are)
outdoorgirl -- I have private messaged you with training schedule stuff.

I am stuck in California this week on business and I wanted to take a little ocean swim (Not many oceans in Utah) while I was here but I don't know where to go. I am staying in Laguna Hills and a lot of people are telling me to go to Laguna beach. If you live down here or have any places that I could go, with in reason, let me know.
