Get bored before I get tired
Bored? I am doing this for 3 years and I have never ever been bored during training.
So I cannot tell you something based on experience, but if it happened to me I would:
Watch the Tour de France to get inspired, try to set a new personal best on my training course, meet with friends to have a little race.
Or you'd better take a week off. Absolutely no sports, nothing. Not even walking fast to your car. No work in the garden. The mind will a) be upset that there is no sports and you desperately want to work out or b) does not miss sport in any way.
a) is great, b) is close to: Stop it, it just does you no good.
That's what I think, now I have to go, it's race day again!
check out some of the articles on how to get the most out of your training.
what race are you starting in? if it's a sprint, you'll have to work on your speed rather than long (and boring) distances ... :)
anyway, good luck in training & try to keep it fun!
I run long distances for my high school cross country team, so far only up to 80 mins, but when I get bored I...
1. Get my friend to run with me and we run through the neighborhood sprinklers
2. sing or pray in my head
3. take apart complicated ideas until I understand them
4. I try and run away from my home and not run a loop by my house because the more I pass my house, the more I want to stop
5. Remind yourself of the blessing of your health and the blessing of being able to run and train
But really I think running with other people is the greatest thing because you have people to talk to and the run goes by so much faster. As to getting bored bicycling I have the same problem so I can't help you there and I can't swim enough yet to reach boredom.
Good luck though. :D

i would try to find a triathlon club around your area, so you have some people to train with. sometimes training with people make it a little more fun. it can get lonely training by yourself all the time.
Training partners are DEFINATELY the way to go, especially when running. Swimming, its nice to have someone to talk to between sets, but I usually chat it up w/ the hot lifeguards! On the bike, some competition is always helpful to keep ya going. There are masters swim teams, running and cycling clubs, tri clubs, etc. Get connected!
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
Thanks for your thoughts. I enlisted my fiancee to run with me after I posted that message, and we had so much fun. We have never run together before...silly huh? I am definitely interested in finding a training partner(s). With that in mind, my aunt and I are going to do an open water swim later this afternoon. I guess I just had to say "I am bored" out loud to encourage myself to make some little changes. THANK YOU! :) ;)
If it was fun AND easy, everyone would do it!

 I am training for my first tri, and am finding that I am getting bored before I get tired. I have tried doing hard sprints to make it more challenging, but wind up frustrated. I am afraid that I am not getting the best training benefits. Any ideas?
