fastest speed on a bike

I was looking at one of the other posts, which got me thinking about the fastest I've ever gone ona bike, which was 50 mph down a mountain in West Virginia. (going that fast on a bike is scary, even if you're just going straight..)

So what's the fastest you've ever gone on a bike?

I'll take one for the team and be the resident turtle. Having just purchased my first bike in the past month, I don't yet have a lot of rides under my belt.

The fastest that I have reached is 35mph down the West end of Chandler Blvd in the Ahwatukee foothills. Certainly nowhere near 50, but I couldn't help but think that I was a small mistake away from a lot of pain.

57mph downhill Ironman USA Lake Placid on Keene Hill

42 mph on Tramway Blvd. heading under I-25 and past Sandia Casino.

Kelli

51 mph when I was 14. Conway Summit down to Bridgeport. Haven't seen that speed since. Seem to have missplaced my immortality serum ;)

Wow

You had to be an Ironman just for reaching that speed and not peeing yourself!!! JA ja ja

I guess that would really scare the hell out of me. Or maybe it's just that I have just moved to my first road bike and I am not yet "one" with my bike.

wow 91.2Km/h WOW~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've hit 56 before.... My longest sustained fast speed was 40-45 mph for 11 straight miles going down mt lemmon in tucson last year - the 11 slowest miles of my life followed by the 11 fastest!

49.5 mph downhill

47.5 mph drafting behind a semi truck on a flat road

Who says I didn't pee myself on the hill??? Could have gone faster but started feathering the brakes! Somehow 50+mph and bare skin on asphalt don't mix

I just hit my max on the Keene decent earlier this month. 52 for me, I had to deal with the regular traffic. Brett, my goal for July (this time I'll have the Zipp equipment) is to hit 60 on that drop. You do have to be careful, the turn at the bottom heading to Upper Jay is tight and gravel tends to build there.

 You guys (and gals!) are all nuts!!

44's my fastest. I've never been on a mtn. decent. Whew!

46 in clermont fl..gon down a HILL

As another one said. You are all nuts.

I am posponing my first tri till next year 'cause here in GT the season starts in january and all the races at this point of the year are more intense. Or maybe I'm just searching for excuses, anyway.........

I hope with time I can get better on my bike and give you all a crazy number like you just gave. I have been riding on a road bike for only a month so I still get a little scared.

For aeversme: 47.5 drafting! WOW.

Well, you all are quite impressive. I can't beat the highest but as I was going downhill this weekend I though of this thread and tucked even more to see what I could do. In Surrey BC down the King George Hwy. hill this past Saturday I managed 66km/hr. Kinda nuts seeing that I was competing with traffic at the time but it was cool. My fastest ever was a straight away down Cypress Mountain in West Vancouver last year. I clocked 78km/hr. No cars around though, thank God.

There is decent out here in central PA (Tyrone) on route 453 that make speeds of 45-50 mph fairly easy. I ride this route every Saturday on my long-rides. It is nice, wide shoulder. And never comes too soon after climbing the otherside.

44! But that was in a group ride with tandems at the front. Those guys were flying and I was just along for the ride.

Gee you guys are good or crazy or maybe just good and crazy  My fastest ever was this past weekend on the down side of a major climb...was 46 mph....all I could think was "I hope Jeff got the tire on tight" You 50 mph guys maybe when I'm a growed up triathlete :D
Chris

I have done 58 on Old Castle Road in North County San Diego. It is very steep and there is a straight section that I pedaled my brains out on a 56-11 on my tri bike. I still have that max speed on my computer!!-I could not have pedaled any faster-makes me appreciate the pros in the Tour De France-like what 60-70 miles an hour?!
