GPS Running watch
Got it. Love it. Very accurate.
I really like the History feature that tells you your splits for previous runs. You don't even have to save your splits, it does it for you.
I also like the minimun and maximum pace alert setting. I like this for running races so I don't go out too fast.

I just got the 301 - And really love it. Found it to be pretty accurate.
It was quick and easy to use right out of the box. Still reviewing some of the advanced features, but works great on both run and bike workouts. Just started setting up intervals workouts on it and that is pretty easy as well.

I got my husband the 101 for Christmas and he loves it. It get's better sattelite reception than our hand held GPS.
I glad to hear the everyone likes it. I bought it them was starting to wonder if it was just a fad. Just one more question, how is the interface to the computer on it and how is the software provided?
I have the 201 model and in my opinion, the PC interface is average. Downloading the data to a computer is very easy (although it uses a serial port, not a USB port). The software itself provides a decent way to log historical data, but there are some features I feel it is lacking.
You can toggle the graphs to display either your speed or your pace (essentially inverts of each other). So, this can show you where you accelerated and where you backed off. An altitude graph is also available, which could be a neat little feature, but it is very limited. You cannot zoom in on the graph or change the upper/lower bounds which means that most of the time, you simply see slight increases and decreases and it doesn't always give you a clear idea of where your major hills were on the run. It would have been nice if you could plot the altitude on the same graph as your speed/pace graph so you could see your change in speed vs. a change in altitude...but maybe I'm just being nitpicky.
I do think there are other freeware programs available off the web that will interface with a Garmin GPS and provide you with a little more functionality, but I haven't really done the research on finding them.
In all, I still love my Garmin, though. It's always great to know exactly how far I run without mapping out a course in my car and sticking to that same course day in and day out.
I have the 301 and it does use the USB port and it seems to perform all the features that were identified as lacking on the 201. It's a great tool. S/W is a snap to install. Downloading history is easy as is uploading new workouts to the 301. Also being able to customize the displays is great , so you can individualize it.

The one that I ordered was off of Yahoo (I had a gift certificate there), the 201 ran me $114 it retails for $149.
Best freeware I found so far. The software that comes with the forerunner is very limited.

I have and love a Forerunner 301. Another great site for analyzing data for them is www.motionbased.com. It's also neat because you can track your progress and that of friends... my user name on there is kyillee if you want to see any of my workouts :)

I was considering purchasing the Forerunner 301. My main concern was the satellite reception. I read some reviews where users complained that they frequently lost the satellite reception, which affects the readings on the unit. I train in an area that has some tree cover. Nothing like a forest or anything, just some oridinary tall maples, pines, etc. that line the streets of the village I live in.
Has anyone had any problems with satellite reception? Does anyone use a Forerunner in a similar environment with some tree coverage and if so, does the Forerunner operate well for you?
Best Regards,
:)
I have the 301 - no problem with loss of signal. The area that I train in does have a lot of tree cover. I have gotten an alarm indicating a weak GPS signal - but never lost it. I have even gone inside to transition from ike to run and the signal was not lost.
The only complaint that I have is that it sometimes takes several minutes to acquire the signal when turning the unit on. When waiting to start a bike or run workout it probably isn't as long as it feels. Other than that very happy with the unit.

That SportTracks software is really super sweet. After having it for a week or two I don't know how I lived without it. Thanks all for your killer input.
SportTracks is cool - just downloaded it today. Was trying MotionBased for the last week or so, but SportTracks seems better right off. The maps are great. Know of anyway to print these out? Would be great to map out some new routes for the long rides.

I have MS streets and trips for my maps but someone mentioned this place( http://www.us.map24.com/ ) to map out your ride with measurements. Glad you guys liked SportTracks, it is a great tool.
I have been using the Garmin eTrex Vista C for the past month along with the MotionBased service and it has been extremely useful. I decided to post some of my training workouts to the following web page.

The one that is most interesting is that of the Dot Racing.

I just purchased the Garmin Forerunner 201 and was wondering if anyone out there has used it. I bought it mainly becuase it was a great deal and also becuase I am a geek. I am interested to know how accurate it is and if it's user friendly.
