Triathlon clothing
Really depends on the length of the race. For short races (sprint, Olympic) most wear tri shorts and a singlet for the duration of the race. Sowe swim with the singlet on some don't, personal preference. For the longer races (half IM and IM) most that I know change clothes. Especially for IM distances. Quick transitions aren't as important for the longer duration races as they are for the sprints and olympics. The tri specific shorts will have a small chamois in them for the bike, and it doesn't bother you on the run either. Good quality ones will dry quickly so there is no problem there plus they help with muscle fatigue on the run. Hope this helps!

I had the exact same question, but I also wanted to inquire about shoes. Do I swim in my sneakers? Having dry feet is kind of on the top of my hierarchy of needs.

No, there will be no need to swim in your sneakers. There will be two transiton areas where you make the necessary changes for the next element of the race.

Normally I practice for the swim in the pool. I was looking to get a pair of Pearl Izumi's Tri Shorts has anyone ever wore their tri shorts in the pools? Will the chlorine bleach the $h!t out of the shorts?

Using no way as way, having, no limitation as limitation
My tri shorts are good in the pool. Don't always do this, usually depends on the race distance, but sprints, for example, I just wear 'em through all three legs of the race.

One note about the Pearls is that they are a little on the short side with only a 6.5 inch leg. Personally I like a little longer legged short so I ended up sending the Pearls back. It's all personal preference, but I thought I would toss that out there.
Im gettin' ready for my first race (sprint distance) in AUGUST (Peachtree City, Ga)
I bought some of the PROTRI Shorts (they are chlorine resistant) (see link below)
http://www.louisgarneau.com/usa/iframe.asp?Content=MenTriathlon
and the matching LG top. I have worn it a couple of times in my biking and swiming practice
to make sure it will be comfortable and to get used to the fit. Seems to be exactly what the
doctor ordered, I love it..
FOR MY RACE:
Im planning on swimming in the outfit (under a wetsuit if applicable),
stripping the wetsuit and donning my cycle shoes at T1,
Riding in the outfit,
Changing from cycle shoes to running shoes(adding socks) at T2, and
Running in the outfit..
That is the plan anyway...

I used my tri shorts in the pool - they work fine - but the chlorine does eat them up - I tried to be careful with rinsing them out and all but they eventually became pretty translucent. As tri-shorts aren't cheap - I stopped using them in the pool and use a suit made to stand up to chlorine.
But for races use the tri-shorts for all 3 legs.

Been a competitive runner for a while, am now considering triathlons. I have a very dumb question. Do the athletes change clothing at each stage (from swimwear to bikewear to running wear), or do they keep the same clothing througout? Any details would be appreciated.
Thanks.
