Running HR?
When I'm doing my long runs in the 8:30-9:00 mpm range, my HR starts in the 130 range, and slowly starts to climb as the run progresses.
During my last Marathon ( 3:35:09 ), my HR started in the 130's, and averaged 150 for the entire marathon. Max was 167, which happened around mile 24, about the time I blew up. My HR did trend higher for the marathon, with a linear progression when plotted against distance.
As you can tell, I'm a little anal in keeping data like HR, distance, speed, temp, cadence, etc.....
My HR on my long runs has decreased over the last two years as my speed ( and fitnessed ) has increased.

Yes, I find that HR for events does get lower with training. The better the base the slower the HR. For example, a half marathon at an easy pace I now run in 1:44 with a HR average of 132, I believe (last time I tested it) that I have a HRmax of 192. I'm 40. Eight months ago, when I check my log, my HR for the same kind of run was higher at 146 and the time was longer at 2:01. Since then my focus has been on building a strong base. I have been training regularly with 3-4 days of HARD biking and running mixing sessions with bricks and increasing the duration of exercise sessions (longer sessions). By raising the HR into the anerobic range as part of interval training I have increased my HRmax and anerobic threshold. This then seems to have lowered my HR for events.

There are no excuses - so don't look for them. As a product of your own choices, you directly determine your life outcomes.

Thanks guys a bunch. I notice my HR has declined some in the past six months but it's not quite were I would like it to be. Maybe in time im still young and endurance sports take years and years to get good at.
