A triathlete's Bookshelf
The Triathlete's Training Bible - by Joe Friel
The Lance Armstrong Performance Plan - by Lance and Chris Carmichael
Food for Fitness - by Chris Carmichael
And of course my training log.
I think "Triathlon 101" by john mora is a great beginner book. I also have "Triathlon Training" by michael finch which has some awesome pictures and interesting bits of info.

It's not as much a training one, but "Becoming an Ironman" by Kara Douglass Thom is great for inspiration and helping get out the door on the less motivated days.
For training plans, I like Gale Bernhardt's "Training Plans for Multisport Athletes", which actually gives a bunch of plans for different distances. I never used any plan exactly, but used it as a reference to where I should be at in my training.

That's ironic- I was just about to post my favorite triathlon book- "The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training," when I saw that someone already had- the author!! Wow- I seriously live by this book, as running is my weakest link and I have had my share of injuries. I really like the organization and content of your book- I have been using your recommended weight lifting exercises, the running drills and many of the brick workouts. Thank you!
Happy Training!

The only book that you will ever need in life: ATLAS SHRUGGED
There is no question that cannot be answered, no problem that cannot be solved, no race that cannot be won with the words written in that book.
(Oh yea, and Terry Laughlin's Total Immersion - Freestyle Made Easy)

I'll second virturace on that one: Total Immersion
Great book, it'll do wonders for your swimming and The Triathlete's training bible of course.

It ain't much, if it ain't Dutch!!
More specifically with Total Immersion: get the Triathlon Swimming Made Easy book. Its a little more concise and directed towards the multisport crowd rather than swimmers. Great book, and the Freestyle Made Easy DVD to go with it makes it an easier system to "get." I have Triathlon Training for Beginners by some chick. I dont recommend it. At first glance it seems ok, but I'd go with the bible first.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.
From author Ayn Rand, it was her masterpiece. A follow-up to and perfection of The Fountainhead. It takes a look at what happens to the world as those who DO tire of those who critique those who do.
Captains of industry disappear in the middle of night - one by one - as the world and its production grinds to a halt. As politicians, journalists, academics and the like wring their hands and try to make sense of it all.
It has been guaged as the second most important book second only to the Bible in the United States. It really is a truly captivating read. You won't be able to put it down. You will be inspired.

AH ATLAS, THE MYTHICAL GREEK TITAN CONDEMNED BY ZEUS TO CARRY THE HEAVENS UPON HIS SHOULDERS...
VIRTURACE IS RIGHT, THE BOOK IS INSPIRING, IT HELPS ANYONE FIGURE OUT WHY WE ALL MUST GIVE OUR BEST AT ALL TIMES, PERSEVERE, CONQUER...
I am also training for my first sprint, it is in august (i already know I can finish, I want more...)

Thank you Virturace, or should I say John Gault...

On mine are:
4 Months to a 4 Hour Marathon by Dave Kuehls
Triathlon Training Basics by Gale Bernhardt
The Triathlete's Guide to Off-Season Training by Karen Buxton
Going Long by Joe Friel and Gordon Byrn
The Triathlete's Guide to Swim Training by Steve Tarpinian
The Triathlete's Guide to Bike Training
Training for Speed, Agility, and Quickness by Brown, Ferrigno and Santana
Becoming an Ironman by Kara Douglas Thom - very inspiring just as Kylie said.
The Triathlete's Training Bible by Joe Friel
I also have The Triathlete's Guide to Run Training by Ken Mierke and Joe Friel?? on back order from Velo. One day I will get it. I haven't started using the Speed, Agility and Quickness one yet. I bought that back when I was trying to get faster for Ultimate frisbee, but I figure it can help me now with my leg turnover and form. I haven't read all of these cover to cover, but I read certain chapters to help me understand different areas of a discipline. Or for training program ideas, etc. Now that I have stocked up on all the helpful reading, I just need to find time to utilize it for the longer race distances. For now, they'll just have to help with the sprint and oly's.

What are some of your favorite/ most useful reading resources? I just ordered 2 books for beginners in the sport and I am wanting to know if there are anymore "must haves" that go over all the ins and outs of tris, motivation, diet, training, etc. ... or maybe I'm just looking for an excuse to stay on the computer and put off my morning work-out for a few more minutes. :p
