Lake Placid Training Trip
I understand that the town puts a cable in the lake to assist swimmers as they go around the 1.1 mile loop - was it in yet? I was thinking on going for a swim over Memorial Day weekend...
What kind of bike setup do you have, or do you expect to use for LP?

The cables under the surface in the area of the swim are laid out for canoe and kayak
training/races. Sure come in handy to swim straight.
There is a marathon/half marathon using the IM course on 6-12-05. No cable on the run.
Guys,
Don't be disappointed, but the white lines are gone now. They took them out a couple of years ago, they were for some crew or rowing team that practiced there. As I understand, IM just left them in and swimmers had this to their advantage. I was in Mirror Lake last week no lines.
Scott,
As for my bike setup, I have a P3. I'm going 53/39 and 11/23 with Zipp 404s. I'll keep the C2 clip-on aeros and Cervelo buck horns.

Jason,
I just got a Cervelo P2 SL with Visiontech aero bars. I have only gone on a couple of short rides with some moderate hills and it seems okay.
I am doing IM Florida, which is relatively flat, but was considering IM LP in the future.

beads1985,
Nice ride! I was upset when I bought my P3 in '04 and the SL line was added the next year. To be honest, not because of the 4 oz. of weight savings, but b/c I wanted the black no-scratch anodized frame.
The Visiontech set is nice, also added in '05. If you ask me, that's the ideal set up for IM FL. You might want to consider a clip-on setup for hilly courses. Those Vision bars don't offer much when you come off the aero bars.
If you have never been to LP and enjoy the outdoors they give it a shot. Great place!

Jason,
I have been up to LP many a time. Skiing mostly. My brothers' in-laws have a house there.
I might go up there to catch IM this summer and check out the course.
I live in NW New Jersey so I have some hilly rides.
I'll see how the new bike feels as soon as I get some nice weather.

Scott,
Right on, best of luck w/ the new bike and the FL IM.

I just spent the last few days in Lake Placid getting an lay of the land before the race in July. I must say, I was pleasantly suprised! What a beautiful place! This was my first chance to visit and I was fortunate to be there for some wonderful weather. If you like the outdoors a great place to vacation.
I had the opportunity to ride the entire bike course (2 laps) on Tuesday. The grade is not as bad as I expected. On the drive into town, I thought I might be in trouble, the roads were constantly changing grade with some fairly steep and long climbs. However, after covering the course, it's on some rather flat roads considering the location and I was able complete the distance averaging 19 mph. The run is fairly flat as well. Needless to say, this leaves me in high confidence for July.
On a side note, did try the (Mirror) Lake for a swim. Evidently, they have not had much warm weather yet; water temp. maybe 50 according to the some local residents. I only lasted about 15 mins. and probably was not a good idea, but hey, I could'nt leave without saying I tried!
