Can I become a good swimmer?
I have been asked this question by many tri guys. I always give the same answer. Bill Yorzyk was an almost none swimmer before going to college and within a couple of years swam for the US Olmypic team and won the only gold medal for the USA in the 56 Olympics. Story here http://www.ishof.org/71wyorzyk.html, Another friend of mine Jack Nelson from Florida could not swim when he was 23 and he came 4th in those same Olympics. Jacks story http://www.ishof.org/94jnelson.html

Here are some animated videos of all swimming strokes. Although not perfect they should be ok and will help you visualize. Front crawl is good, head too high and not as much roll as I would like to see... http://people.westminstercollege.edu/faculty/ccline/clinetv/swimmers.html

Thanks geochuck! Swimmers are often surprised at how late I'm getting into the sport, and it's good to know there is hope!

All of the great swimmers bring the hands closer to the body and down the center line. In the old days Johnny Weissmuller used to bring his hands through the water in line with the shoulders very little roll and reached for the bottom of the pool. If you look on my web page you will find videos of Crawl swimming and if you look at the videos of Thorpe you will see the ultimate stroke. Just found Thorpe http://www.swim.ee/videos/freestyle/Thorpe-front-under-arms-flexed.mpg
