Some things I'd rather do than train are . . .
Sleep. Watch an Ironman vid. Sleep. Eat chocolate. Read. Sleep. :)

Sit at my favorite bar drinking cold Coronas and eating chips and queso. Then sleeping in the next day, then lounging with a double-tall nonfat latte and a bagel.
And of course trying not to feel guilty because I didn't work out!

I, too, like to enjoy adult beverages when I want to get away from the routine of training.
Why is it that most triathletes I know love the adult beverages! Maybe there is a connection between the insane training schedules we keep and being lushes!?! Ha, ha.
No doubt, the reason I started training and doing tris is limit my lushiness. I love going out with friends putting down a few ( I wont specify the actual number) scotch and waters with a great dinner. Of course this blows your training day out of the water the next day; so I will throw the baseball around with the kids; this is not as hard.
Yeah, I think that we are so dedicated to our training as triathletes that a night out is just the remedy--only once in a while, tho--LOL. Let loose, have fun, forget about training for the time being ('cause you know you just got finished riding that long ride before meeting up with your buds at the bar)...good times:) And so what if you don't train the next day til later? At least you'll get it in;)

PAIN IS TEMPORARY, PRIDE IS FOREVER!
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't you are right!
I'm most likely to slack on biking...
not set an alarm, lay on the couch with a blanket and bad tv and chips and salsa, go out on the back of my roommate's motorcycle (however, there is a great local biking road -- both for bicycles and motorcyles -- and I tend to want to get out there on my road bike the day after motoring it)
besides the usual drinking binges...i still train the next day..
i love going hiking...i don't considerate training ...just a walk in the woods...relaxing to be outside without wondering what my heartrate is...
for inside stuff...i actually went to a movie yesterday...the first time in over a year...that was ok..but the only way i can sit still that long is if i already have my workout in...and the movie must be good enough to keep my attention ;)
interesting thread...makes me realize i need a life!!! hee hee hee...
do it till you drop :)
a day without training.... hmmm.... how about alone and without the kids as well?
i would get completely decked out in black with a beautiful bag and great shoes and take the earliest train into NYC. i would spend the whole day in SOHO - first start out at a cafe have a giant cappucino and fresh baked warm bread loaded with butter. then i would stroll in and out of each and every boutique shopping till i could no longer carry another package...
then late in the afternoon i'd treat my aching shopaholic body to a relaxing masage and mani/pedi at my favorite day spa. top off the day with a visit to my favorite upper east side bar. i'd have a couple of tangueray and tonics and just enjoy people watching and thinking about my wonderful day. then i'd hail a cab and head back to the train. back to LI... back to the real world.
Amy - you just described my weekend, last weekend, when I went to NYC for the 5 Boro Bike Tour and stayed for 2 nights. Lots of eating, drinking, and shopping in SOHO! (And spending tons of $$ - for once not on tri gear).
When I'm not training, I like to sleep in late (which is hard to do now because I wake up thinking I've missed a workout), lay out by the pool in the summertime, catch up on reading all my magazines, and read a good book in the warm sun.

you dirty dog, you! ( just kidding)
i am soooooooooooooooooo jealous! but i hope you had fun in my favorite place on earth!
SURFING..no questions. Waking up at dawn, packing up 2 wetsuits a surfboard and running shoes. That’s how I start most of my days off. 15 Min later I'm at Pismo beach. If there's surf I put on 1 wetsuit, grab the board and rip for a couple hours. If it's flat, I grab the other wetsuit and swim. Either way I finish it with a nice 10K on the beach. Pismo rules. Any central Cali folks will attest. Hit up Jamba Juice in Arroyo Grande on the way home. Now that’s how you start a Sunday morning. Finish it off with a 6 pack of Corona and a Steak over the BBQ that night. Doesn’t get much better than that!

That sounds great Shaun... my surfboard is mad at me cause I haven't used it since Oct 2003!!! I need to make a fun morning like that sometime!
if there is one thing that i have noticed between athletes and drinking...is that it is usually all or nothing LOL. not only are we serious about getting our long swim, bike and run in...we are also very serious when in comes down to getting in a long night of drinking and dancing in as well, or atleast i am ; ) i TRI to stay well balanced in all aspects of life!!
Sometimes I think that just about anything would sound cooler than training.
For me training is so closely linked up with what I am eating, and my number one indulgence is wings. I love em. And of course we all know what comes hand in hand with wings-BEER. Wings+BEER+me= no training for the day.
Although Beer is not all bad. The night before a race or a big training ride I always down two Guinesses, and think about the commercials. "BRILLIANT!" Then I pound water and pass out. Because I used to be a hella lush, and now I am an Ironman Dreamer.
Sleeping all afternoon on the couch does sound pretty sexy too though!
No worries dude-that is way bonzer!
Snowboarding without a doubt. I would love to hike up a mountain with a daypack and do some backcountry snowboarding all day long. Especially on a fresh POW-DAY!!!!!
Actually SB, there's nothing I'd rather do than ride a bike, run through the park or go to the lake for a swim.
This is where I live and train:

If you look closely, there's a road along the lake on the far side. That's part of the Ironman Canada bike route.
I swim in the bay on the far side of this pic and sometimes I swim across to the point there and run the 11km home in wet runners.

so of course, I like training!

Of course.
I am looking at renting a house for August just so I can have Ironman guests. Then I might get an exchange visit in another IM city and we'll have a worldwide community.I got the idea from the Winter Olympics in 1988. I lived in Calgary then. People from other parts of the world were looking to exchange houses for the duration and some of my acquaintences even rented their house out for enough to take a vacation to Hawaii.
I figured an accommodation-swap for Ironman wasn't too optimistic.
When I have details I'll post 'em.

Thanks, glad you like them. I agree the atmosphere during Ironweek in Penticton is second to none. I'm looking forward to this year's race.

Face it. Sometimes training gets frustrating, tiring and the last thing you want to do is smell like chlorine yet again, you feel like banishing your bike to the garage (gasp, the garage!) and your running shoes are stuffed back in the closet with those cowboy boots from the 80's.
Usually not all at once of course, but there are periods when we all wish multisport wasn't so multi.
Anyway, interested it hearing what you all, who obviously spend A LOT of your lives training . . . sometimes find that little voice in your head convicing you to do otherwise . . .
for me, it's getting really dressed up, putting back a few gin and tonics and dancing all night long . . .and ---- skipping that morning workout ---- to sleep in and rid the hangover with scrambled eggs and the morning paper.
On the other hand, such desires only come around once in awhile, thank goodness!!!
Happy Training!
