i believe it is a female weighing over a certain limit. Can't remember the exact number, but over 150 lbs comes to mind or else 175 lbs. For men the weight is different, but they're called clydesdales.

Athena and Clydesdale are divisions for larger triathletes. Athena is the women's divisoin and Clydesdale is the men's division. Usually there is a certain weight requirement and you have to weigh in before the event in order to compete in that division. I'm not exactly sure what the weight is. Maybe someone else knows? I think it might be over 150lbs for women.

I race in the men's Clydesdale division, sometimes the Masters Clydesdale. The Athena division is for women over 150 pounds and most high profile races do have a weigh-in. There is a website that may help.

Since we're talking race catagories, I have dumb question number 2 - Is the masters group in most races typically for people over 40 or is there another qualification?

Yes, typically the Master's division is for people over 40. At least that's the way I understand it.

yes, masters in races is over 40. It goes strictly on age.

When i first heard about masters swimming, i was confused and thought that was for "older" people, but obviously that is taken in a different context.
