Lake Swim rough or not? Cornelius

I don't know anything about that lake in particular, but it usually just depends on the day. When I rowed, there were days the lake was like glass, and I LOVED rowing on those day. The choppy days...and they weren't always windy days... pretty much sucked. Learn to swim in all conditions. Get out there even when there's decent chop. Just swim with a lifeguard on duty or a friend or something.
Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

I recently did the Cornelis Sprint Triathlon - it had a 750 meter lake swim, next week I do the White Lake Sprint also 750 meter swim. I have little experience with open water of any kind and thought the conditions were pretty tough as in choppy rough - I found a difficult time swimming freestyle. Can anyone comment on this that may have more experience and if possible can you comment on what the conditions may be like for White Lake - I know I can make it I just want to find out kinda where I stand - was it really that hard or do I just need to learn to get used to it and learn to swim better in these conditions. thanks
