Hey all - I'm about to take plunge on a Tri bike and, wanted to keep it under 1500, have narrowed to the Trek Equinox 7 and the Felt s32.

Can anyone give me any helpful tips to sway me either way? I understand that the Felt lines have absolute value over Trek, but I'm very new to cycling (more of a runner/swimmer).

Does the cutout in the frame of the Trek actually make a noticable difference for a newbie? Which is a better stock bike? Which is better to upgrade? etc.

Thanks in advance for any of your help.

I bought a Trek Equinox 7 last year as my first tri bike and could not be more happy. It has been great and, in my opinion, a perfect beginner's tri bike.

Do you mind if I ask what you paid out the door?

The Felt is 1099 before pedals and tax and is what I'm leaning toward because I'm cheap.

I think it was around $1,400 and the bike shop threw in a computer, free fitting and some water bottle cages.

I have the current 05 Equinox 7. I cannot vouch for the Felt personally, tho I understand they make great products. Mine was also $1400 out the door. I love it! My buddy has a Trek 1500 and he has trouble keeping up...is that the rider or the ride?

You'll notice a substantial difference between bikes of $1000 and $1.5k..no matter the brand. That said, comparing the profile of my E7 to my friend's Griffen, the Trek seems more aero. Its VERY similar in profile to the Trek TT bike that Postal/ Discovery uses... tho it has different (more tri specific) geometry and material. Try both out at LBSs, the bike shop itself may be the deciding factor for you. I know the Cannondale/ Specialized dealer around here are a bunch of jerks, so that ruled out both those bikes for me.

Life is short. Play hard and get dirty doing it.

The Felt probably wouldn't show dirt as much;) haha No, in all seriousness, I don't have a tri bike (I'm a newbie), but I have a Felt and love it! BUT...most people who have a certain brand and like it usually promote it, so that's neither here nor there. I know this doesn't help...sorry...

The Felt S25!

Yes, I pulled a fast one. Called the local tri shop (Tribe Multisport in Scottsdale) and the owner informed me that he had an S25 with a paint chip in the frame and he'd sell it to me for 1500.

From everthing out there that I've read, the S25 for the price of the Equinox 7 is a steal.

Thanks for your help out there - happy racing.

Thats funny b/c i was in a similar situation last year. I was debating b/w the Felt S32 and another bike. I think it might have been a quintana roo. Anyway, at the last second i went to a different shop and got a great deal on the S22 from the year before, which is somewhat comparible to the current S25. Anyway, i could not be happier. I love Felt and i think you made a great choice.
