Buying from the US shipping to the UK
you're not kidding! now is the time to buy american...
why a "gift"? is the "gift" status an issue with customs fees?
Yup - if the item is marked as a Gift, then Customs are less likely to sting you with import duties!
You are going to have better luck finding a private citizen over here that will do it for you than a business. In my opinion, no "reputable" business would risk getting in trouble with customs to sell only one bike. Also, the shop would then be at the mercy of the bike manufacture if they ever found out. What you are looking for is called gray-market (like black-market, just not illegal). However, even though it is not illegal, manufactures frown on this and the bike shop would run the risk of being cancelled.
My point is you are going to have a tough time finding a shop that is willing to do this for you, and if you do, you might not want to deal with them.
Maybe some ebay sellers will mark as a gift, but I wouldn't count on any retailers doing it. It's basically incriminating themselves for your benefit, and no matter how nice they are, it's still a business. As mentioned above, if a professional dealer is dodgy enough ship you a gift, maybe they're not the type to deal with. Try ebay, but I can tell you that I never mark anything that I sell through ebay as a gift, because it's dishonest, and it's not like I have to pay more.

Okay - ignoring the gift part - are there any reputable, recommended, internet retailers that will ship to the UK?
Try... https://shop.sunrisecyclery.com.
He is right near my home and a Tri specific bike shop, they have everything.

Owing to the strength of the UK Pound (or the weakness of the US Dollar!) buying from the US is, at the moment, very appealing. If the product purchased is marked as a Gift, then the appeal shoots through the roof ;) .
So my question is if anyone is aware of reputable internet bike dealers (selling Specialized/Felt/Cervelo bikes) who will, ahem, send me a gift :p
