Brick Workouts

Hello Everybody,

I live in a metropolitan area and besides an easy spin around my neighborhood, with lots of stop signs, the nearest safe great ride is 15 minutes away.

For my brick workouts I have to pack up the bike, drive home, stow the bike, and then go out for a run, so its probably 30 minutes before I am running. With this long break in-between it really doesn't feel like a brick a workout. Seems like to me this break is defeating the value of my brick workouts.

Anybody else run into this problem? How does everybody set up their bricks?

Maybe I'm missing something, but why don't you just run at the same place you bike instead of going home in between? You are definitely defeating the value of the brick by taking such a long break.

So drive to your usual bike place, ride as you normally do, put the bike in the car or chain it up and run immediately after. Then go back to the car, secure the bike and go home.

Or you could just stay at home and use a wind-trainer for the bike component then out the door for a run - not quite what you'd prefer but keeps the bike safe :)

I'm with Sully and cherelli, you have to find a solution.

My training plan says to start the run within 15 minutes of finishing the bike.(I normally use less)

Whenever i have a Brick I try to have somewhat of a T2 setup in my garage so I can practice my transition. that would be hard for you but you should try to find a solution that allows you to run sooner.

Hyperactive Trifueler!!!! (I refuse to let the status go :p)

Sorry I wasn't clear.

I certainly could lock the bike on the roof rack. However I have a feeling one day when I return from my run my pedals and possibly other components would be stripped off the bike.

Not that my bike is worth a lot, but it is worth more than my car. :)

Using the trainer is an option I have tried, so that always a possibility when everything else doesn't work.

I guess the best solution is to drive out to country where I can leave the bike on the locked on the roof and then go for a run immediately after.

Thanks for the advice.

that's a pretty rough area...maybe finding other ride spots IS a good idea

[can you not fit the bike IN the car? without the front wheel, I can usually get my bike (63cm frame) into the car somehow if I need to]
